23B 30A Inline Fuse Issue
All,
I keep blowing the inline 30A fuse on the positive side of my battery on my 23B. I am not an electrician, so I need some suggestions of where to start looking.
I have checked all of the circuit breakers in the back under the bed. These all seem fine.
Did I perhaps reverse the polarity on one of the wires when I hooked the battery back up this spring? I have 3 wires on the positive and one wire on the negative terminal.
A few things to note. Everything runs fine when it is plugged into 110 AC. Everything also runs fine while it is plugged into my running vehicle.
The battery says 12.65 while plugged in using my multimeter. Should it read a little higher if all is well?
Let me know if you have any further suggestions.
Thanks!
Zack

If you have the power tongue jack, watch going all the way to the top and all the way to the bottom.....will blow fuse most every time.

zkey, you don't say what you are doing when the fuse blows. jtown may be onto something if it's blowing when you run the jack.
As I recall I had only 2 wires on the + post. 1) main supply to the power center (this should be fuse protected)
2) hot side to the break-away switch (I think these are usually NOT fuse protected)
The hot side to the jack may or may not have its own fuse - I think mine did not have its own fuse and I wired it downstream from the 30A inline
If your jack is wired directly to the + post on the battery then I'd guess that's the 3rd wire. If it's , like mine, wired downstream of the 30A then I don't know what the 3rd wire is.

Could the trailer emergency brake cables be shorted? They might run off that same 30A fuse.

I have three wires on the positive too. I accidentally mistook this for the negative and reversed the battery hook-up; it blew the fuses in my converter.

+1 on the tongue jack; have had that happen too many times. Carry a baggie of 30a fuses now just for that...

Zack,
With your battery disconnected and shore power unplugged use your meter and check continuity to the chassis on your battery wires. The wire with 0 ohms to the chassis is the ground (probably a white wire) and should connect to the negative battery post. You may also see that wire is attached to the chassis around the tongue somewhere. The other wires all go to the positive battery terminal.

All,
I have been very busy with a baseball tournament for my son, so I had not looked at it over the past several days. I looked at it today and immediately hung my head in shame. The negative was hooked to the positive, and for some reason I had hooked my tongue jack to the negative. Very embarrased.
Thanks for the replies. We is good now!
Zack

Good news! Glad to hear you've sorted it out. First time I disconnected my battery I couldn't remember what when where. I got lucky that time.

Zack, my battery is hooked up right, but this happens to me sometimes anyway. Always when unplugged from Shore...usually something with the jack or slide...I keep a ton of 30A fuses on hand.

After this same incident with our first TT, I labeled the cables with my brother ptouch labels. Never had the problem again.

+1 even if I'm sure I'm connecting the right way having the wires labeled gives me peace of mind.
