AC heat strip
Can the stock air conditioner in a jayco x17z have a heat strip installed in it to be used to replace using a propane heater? I know some RV air conditioner can support a heat strip for providing heat but I know the one on my x17z doesn't have a heat setting on it so I am assuming it's not built to support adding a heat strip. Any info will be appreciated.

Yes, I put one in our son's 17Z, the new knob comes with the Heat Strip.

I know the electric heat strips draw a bunch of 120VAC power. Hope you are aware of this and have enough 120VAC to handle this...
With my setup I can sometimes trip the 30AMP Breaker with just running the Air Conditioner and maybe turn on the microwave... Of course others items are ON as well.
Just saying the 30AMP Trailers appliances add up to more than the 30AMP Breaker can handle if you add them all up.
With that in mind you may want to wire up a plan B to use the camp ground 20AMP Service and an additional power cord just to run the heat strip????
There may be another issue when thinking abut replacing the propane heater - don't forget it is also used to heat up the basement area around your tanks to keep them from freezing up in the winter months... May have to add some additional heat vents etc...

Works great on "cool" nights... not so much on cold nights. It's not intended to heat up the camper, just take the chill off. Of course, a couple of dogs in the bed do the same thing, and they don't use any power! lol

I have been thinking about adding the heat strip too. I read that the heat strip is only 500watts. Your typical portable electric heater is 2500 watts.
As for the knob, not sure, my ac is heat strip ready.

Just food for thought... the heat strip is generally pretty inefficient and expensive.
A simple ceramic heater on the counter will provide close to twice the amount of heat for about $20. I stopped looking at the add on heat strips after I saw the $75 price tag...

A 1500 watt heater produces 5,100 BTU's a HEAT STRIP is 5,000 BTU's and circulates better. So I have to disagree.

Check the manufacturer specs on your unit.

Most non ducted units are heat strip ready while most ducted units require a new control box and thermostat. A ducted unit will normally require you to run another single wire from the thermostat to the a/c unit also.

Well, perhaps technology has improved since we had the old popup with a heat strip. Regardless, $20 for a ceramic heater vs about $75 for a heat strip makes it a pretty easy decision for me...
