black tank question

I have noticed that when I remove the cap to attach my sewer hose on my 20013 x17z. I always get a little liquid draining out of the pipe. Not the most pleasant smell when arriving at the campsite. I always drain completely and wash with the wand each trip. Is this because the black tank pipe is so long and the valve is at the other side of the camper? Any one else with this model notice this?

a little bit will come out of my X17a when I remove the cap but it wouldn't fill a shot glass. But there is no black water in it since I diligently clean it out. I hope you have your valves closed???

I have a 2012 17z, and I noticed the small amount of liquid that came out yesterday, when dumping too.

I'd say it was only 1/2 oz or so......not enough for me to worry about.

Thanks for the responses. I do have the valve closed. Just thought because it is such a long run to the valve it must be what is sitting in the long pipe. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't my valve having issues.

there is a long run to the valve and there could be liquid sitting in the pipe but if your valve is closed you should not get any liquid when you open the cap There is only a foot long pipe from the valve to the cap. Thats why I asked if you have your valve open.

I might get a tablespoon of liquid out of the pipe when I uncap it. Not enough for me to lose any sleep over. Heck an amount that small could simply be condensation.

I don't think I would worry about it. If the tank was full, and it was leaking, then I'd worry, but if it's just residual waste water left in the pipe which is what it sounds like you most likely have nothing to worry about.

I almost always have the small amount that people have described and just assumed it was normal. Based on others responses, it sounds like it is, and even if it isn't, it is not something I will worry about.

I just hold the sewer hose under it as I pull the cap off to capture the tiny bit that seeps out. Even if I didn't, wouldn't be a big deal..

I would agree with the previous posts. A little fluid is probably not worrying about. I did however have a problem on a previous unit with the push handle not shutting the tank valve. I discovered, upon inspection, that the sheathing on the handle cable had separated just behind the mounting bracket so that when I pushed the handle to close the valve the sheathing would expand on the last 1/4 so that valve did not completely close.

Upon removal and inspection of the valve, I found that it was tight to close and may have contributed to the cable failure. The culprit appeared to be coffee grounds . Oh, the price of our Northwest addictions!
