Bumper upgrade?

Hi all,

Has anyone replaced the rear bumper on the 17Z (or any other TT with the "C" style bumper)? I was thinking about having a 4"X4" square one to accomodate upgraded/longer sewer hose. Thanks

Welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum Rob. When you get a chance, check the "mods" section to see what you can find on bumpers while you wait for replys to this thread. Definitely come back and post pics of the mod when you do it

Might want to consider attaching a PVC pipe (cap the ends) to the HTT frame for housing the sewer hose...., might be easier than fabricating a new bumper. Locate the pipe such that it isn't a clearance issue when towing over irregular surfaces.

Just a thought.

robcr-- I did just what rustic eagle mentioned, to my pup. A pce of 5" pvc u-bolted to the top of the tt bumper. I used female adaptors (electrical lingo) glued to both ends with plumbing pvc threaded caps screwed in. I used it for awning and canopy poles and it worked great. Larry

That sounds like a much easier/cheaper solution than replacing the bumper altogether. Thanks for the great suggestions.

Hello Rob,

I decided to add my own bumper/extension to my 17c. The stock bumper is 7" short of the camper edge and the bumper is super wimpy.
When the go-kart is not on I have 4 fold down roof bike racks mounted to carry the bikes. No tailgators when this is on. It's pinned in 4 places to 4 receiver hitches welded to the frame.

Wow! How much does that go-cart weigh? I have a bumper mod in progress on my 19H that I will post in the mods section when finished...paint is drying as I type and I'm wondering how much weight I can get back there (tounge balance factored of course etc).

I'm mainly doing it to haul bicycles but have thought about putting my generator back there on a tray (once folks see the mod they'll see it will easily handle the 175lbs).

What really has me interested is adding a small motorcycle carrier for one of my sportbikes....probably weighs about 430lbs.

Hello Mark,

The kart is a yerf-dog and it's about 180-200lbs, most/all the weight is the motor. If I need to I add half the weight in water jugs to the front but it travels fine even up to the mountain in VT. My bike racks stay on and fold flat so I always have them. If I need to un-pin it the bottom brace acts like a teeter-point so I can tilt it away and slide it off. I still have to add my small wheels so it will roll once it's on hooked. I don't like to put bikes and wood inside my camper. Since I have a single axle I do have more tongue weight than the duals so you will need to watch that.

I added a square PVC fence post to my existing bumper. I used large wire ties to hold it in place, and small clear "bumps" to keep it from rubbing on the trailer.
