Bunkend canvas mod?
We have a 2008 jayco 19h. The bunkends are attached by Velcro and and 3 snaps. We feel this is not enough especially with small kids. We have been using tarp clips and bungee cords.
Has anyone done a mod to this?
I found something called rhino glue.
Any thoughts would be great

Does anybody use just the Velcro? Has anybody or thing fallen through?
Thanks

I don't have the same camper as you, but I can say that with our old pop up, the canvas was just pulled down over the platform and then bunjeed underneath. My kids shared a bunk and never had even the slightest issue, if that helps any! And believe me, there was a lot of kicking and rolling around (they are now 5 and 8). They fight like little monsters!

Our old Palomino S17 had Velcro to secure the Tent ends around the edges and we never had any problems with the kids falling out.

Had a 23 B with Velcro and snaps. Three kids. Lots of trips. No problems.

Kind of an old post but thought I would throw my experience out there. We shopped new hybrids and liked the x23b, so we found a used one at a much more reasonable price. I did not realize until later that the canvas was not attached on the older models like it is on the newer ones. That worried me a little, so I bought 3 packages of those snaps from Home Depot and installed them 6 inches apart across all 3 sides of the bunk ends. I tried rolling against it and it held me. The snaps are very easy to install and it only took about hour to do it.

We used to have a pop up before the 19H with the velcro, We used it from the time when my youngest was 3 and the oldest was 8, for eight years and nothing ever happened. That includes the kids having sleep overs with their friends in the camper in the driveway when the camper had like 7 kids in there with most of them on the bunk ends, and no problems.

We had an old Viking Pop up that used bungi cords only to secure the tent ends and never had a problem. We used that unit for over 10 years. The bungi cords we more like flimsy rubber strings than actual bungi cords. That was our first move up from a tent and we felt like we had died and gone to heaven!

I had 2 PUs previous to getting my 17Z. 14 years with only bungee cord holding the tenting in place and we never had a problem. FYI one trip was with 2 adults and 6 kids. The camper really had a work out that week.

That would sure ruin my day having a kid roll out the side. Thats a long way to the ground. My Starcraft uses a stretch loop rope on the bottom that goes around three or round catches on the bottom side of the pullout flooring. Pretty tight and snug fit for us.
I also use several of those 2-inch square by 30-inch long foam pieces that goes in the house window air conditioner installs. This is sandwiched between the tarp and the flooring and really stops any drafts that might come thru...

Wait a minute, kids have rolled out of the bunk ends before? How is this possible?

On our old 19H the tent ends had to be buttoned by hand. If you forgot to do this or the kids pushed hard enough on it they could fall out. Never happened to us but it is plausible. They newer units are much more secure now that tent end canvas is secured to the decking from the factory.
