Digital Thermostat Swap Question for an X17Z

I'm planning to replace the analog thermostat in my 2013 X17Z with digital either today or this weekend. I got the Honeywell Pro 1000. My plan is to keep it simple and run the thermostat off of AAA batteries, and always keep spare batteries in the camper. Given that, do I just not connect the C wire at all?

If you want to pull power from the AAA batteries no need to connect the C wire.

It's extremely easy. Took me about 30-45 minutes, and would have taken less time if I hadn't had to drill two sets of holes because I screwed up and didn't cover the old thermostat holes the first time. All you have to do is unscrew the old unit and unhook the wires. Then, mount the faceplate for the new one, hook up two wires, and you're done. I pulled the fuse for the heater/refrigerator before starting, but I'm not sure whether that is really even necessary.

Here's a link to the thermostat I installed: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H6ARNXO/

Keep in mind that I have an X17Z, which does NOT have ducted air conditioning. My thermostat, therefore, only controls the heat. If you have ducted air conditioning, you'll want a different unit. It's a tad more complicated when you're dealing with AC, but really only in the number of wires you have to connect. Here's a pic of my before and after:

I paid a little extra for the Coleman digital thermostat and it was a wire to wire swap. took about 15 minutes.

The heat /cool might be overkill on this case since it is only a heater.

There you go, same unit and at slighty more than half what I paid for it. Good deal.

I installed the same Honeywell Heat only stat (purchased on Amazon for <$30) and it took 10-15 minutes. There are only 2 wires- red & white. You don't need to hook anything to the C terminal if you're using batteries.

I too just did the Honeywell digital thermostat switch. Easy as pie and looks better too. 10-15 minute job.

Very simple to do. I took the camper out last weekend for the first time since I took the leap to digital, and was a little disturbed to find that the thermostat fell off the wall during my way to the destination. I put it back on and it worked fine. It did NOT fall off on the way home, so maybe it just wasn't clicked in all the way the first time. I'll leave it on for now, but if it happens again, I'll just need to take it off the wall whenever we travel with the camper.
