Figure out how you would load in your vehicle, what items would sit behind the axle and take a guess at the weight of it all. If it's that close (100#), I'd probably just go with the next hitch up instead of trying to keep it on the Cheap.
Do not ever let $$ become an obstacle to your overall safety. It's just not worth it.

Thanks Dagwood, I punched in some different weight scenarios and got 50/50 results between the 12000 and 10000 hitch so think I'll go with the higher rated one to be safe. Plus if they last 10 years then I can use it to upgrade to another trailer someday, right?
Will it make for a stiffer ride?

Maybe a little. The choice I had was between a 6k or 10k, I went 10K and don't have a problem. If you do go 12k, it should leave you room for Upgrades, LOL.
You have a Ford Expedition and a Jayco X254?

Also check for a sticker on the A frame near the tongue. My trailer is 4950 gross rating and I asked them to put on the 10,000 /1000 equalizer in case I go bigger. Glad I didn't go bigger than that because my sticker says not to go over 1000 pd equalizing hitch.

I simply went with the recommendation (default) shown in the manual. It worked great for me.

I just took a peak at mine. I have one bolt hole showing on the bottom. No holes on top. Ball is on an angle with the washer count shown in the manual as a starting point. I dont have the TRD but with my HTT hooked up I sit pretty much level. Hope that helps.

Just returned from the first trip. The new Equalizer hitch worked like a charm with my xz17. The only problem was with the new hitch the safety chains were too short. New chains or maybe moving the mount will work. Any suggestions from anyone else who had this issue.

Short chains are not uncommon. Check out adding a couple of Quick Links. I have an extended shank and needed two on each side.
Online and stores like Tractor Supply and even Walmart carry them.
