We purchased a used 2014 z17z and some of the other used ones we looked at had the heated mattress pads however, the one we did buy doesn't have the pads. Can I buy these somewhere and they work on our trailer or does it require a particular mattress to?
The pads are not trailer specific. They were an option so a lot of trailers don't have them. Ours does not have them. I think you can buy them from Jayco, but you can probably buy a generic version from Wal-Mart or Amazon a lot cheaper. My wife brings a heating blanket she picked up at an estate sale for $5.

Heated blankets are a good option. For our x23B, We lay heated blankets down on the mattress and sleep on top of them, then open up a sleeping bag as a blanket. We stay nice and warm, and it cost us all of $50.00.
The bride and I camped several times in our X23B (now belonging to someone else) in weather that would dip below freezing for a few hours and a couple of times the temp would bottom in the upper twenties. We did not have the heated pads and don't think it would have made us any more comfortable if we did have them. We use regular sheets with a light blanket and a nice down comforter. If anything was chilly it was the top of my head (not much covering there) and my wife's feet. I pull the pillow over my head and she wears socks.
We were in Grants NM for about a week in Sep 2013 and the weather would be a little below freezing and windy at night. We use a small electric space heater set in the upper 40's and set the furnace to the lower 40's and we were comfortable.
