How stable should a 23B be with the supports down?
Just wondering how stable our new to us hybrid should be with the stabilizer jacks down.
It seem to still rock quite a bit. I'm wondering if I didn't have the jacks down far enough. I basically just put them down till they touched the ground as I know they aren't supposed to support the weight of the trailer.
Thanks!
Charles

When they touch the ground, an extra quarter or half turn will help with the wobble. It would take a lot of muscle to lift the trailer with the stabilizer jacks.

all trailers rock a fair amount. there are a number of things you can do to help minimize the rocking, but you will always have some.
As Murff stated, give the stabilizers a 1/4 turn. I found it helps to put a board under each stabilizer to spread the weight out. I also found that the next morning after setting up the stabilizers are loose, so I tighten them up again. The next day they are tight. Install a set of X-Chock like device between the two wheels. This helps reduce the rocking affect. Also If you add another set of stabilizers right in front of the axles this helps too. There are other products out there that help too, but cost a lot more.
You are correct, the stabilizers are not to support the weight of the trailer, just help stabilize it.

Great question. I bring my (new to me as well) x23b home tomorrow. I would have been on here asking the same question. Thanks for the responses.

I crank on mine pretty good but making sure I am not over doing it. Seems to be very stable.

Once I added x-chocks to the set up routine, mine became much more stable. That said, there is still a slight wobble at times.

I will agree that adding an extra half turn or so will help. I also added pads to the bottom of my stabilizer feet to give them a large surface area and I still use boards or Legos under them if I am not on a gravel site.

X2 on the X-Chocks... they really do a great job IMHO.

I found that using a stabilizer on the front of my 16xrb model also helped reduce the "rocking".
My dealer informed me during my delivery session to not use the stabilizer bars as a method to level, nor to crank down on them more than 1/4 turn after they touch the ground.
For the front, I went with this:

They need to do more than just touch the ground.

So then we can't use it on that side. And the trailer moves more without it on both sides (but less than without any).

I crank my stabilizers one turn after they hit the ground and user x chocks. Still get some movement but you have to remember its a trailer on wheels

Mine wobble a little. To be expected. What really blew my mind was the first time I opened the back pop-up and two of my grand children slept (rather played) there at night. I could feel every time they moved. They loved it though.

Ours wobbled a ton, even with x chocks. Our main culprit is side to side, not front to back. I built some braces from 2x4s that go under the camper. Here is a picture of when I was mocking them up. I installed screw eyes on them, and they really helped with the side to side rocking. There was barely any movement with them. Before it felt like we were on a boat when my wife or kids would walk around in the camper.

I'm considering adding 2 more scissor jacks in front of the front axle. Anyone that's done this to their trailer please chime in with your experience. I use X-Chocks as well but believe the little bit of wiggle I'm getting is more side to side than front to back.

I think the rule is that you don't want to use them to lift the tires off the ground. To me that would take quite a few turns once they touch the ground to make that happen. We keep ours good and tight, and on our week long trips, I'll raise them all and then put them back down again.

One thing that worked for me, go to the hardware store and buy a 6"x6"x8' and cut it into 1' lengths. I put two of those under each of my stabilizers so that they only have to extend a few inches. It is not really much of a pain and the cheapest way to keep your trailer from rock-n-rolling ($20 and some sawing).
