Hybrid and Condensation under mattresses

Bought a new 16 XRB last fall and used it twice in cooler/colder weather. Really got a lot of condensation under the mattresses and had to remove mattresses and dry everything in the mornings. No problems during the summer but would like to continue to camp into the fall and winter - does anyone know of any fixes to eliminate or reduce this? Opening the zippers, windows and venting did not help.

If opening flaps or windows did not help I can't offer much in terms of new ideas. With our old Kiwi 17a we just left a flap open a little. Almost no condensation. With our X20E that didn't work. By accident I found that leaving the small window above our sink open resolved the issue.

Some folks have found success using PUGs. They look like a hassle to me though. I like the KISS principle.

We are having this same issue, even with venting. What I'm trying right now is leaving a container of Damp Rid open in there, when it is not in use.

Try this Hypervent Condensation Prevention Matting. We use it under our boat mattress its about 3/4" thick and is placed under the mattress to allow air movement. It works great with our memory foam mattress which seems to hold more heat and caused condensation under the mattress, installed Hypervent and problem gone.

We have had a little under our mattress, from time to time, especially before we learned to control the humidity.

I do not worry about it under the mattress. Typically we are out only for two nights, in the cooler part of the season. The board under the matress is waterproof. When we pack up, the matress is pulled up and everything can dry out. I have no concerns about mold or mildew.

Found hypervent on sale for $8.58 a foot, ordered enough for both bunks will see how it does next month in the fall camp out.

HYPERVENT IS THE ANSWER!!!!! I tried everything mentioned on this forum, and nothing worked. I ordered enough HyperVent for 1 bunk, as a test, and have had NO problem since. I will be ordering enough for the other 2 bunks soon.

Call 360-657-5503 and talk to Rex. He can answer any question you have, and give you installation tips. Check out HyperVent Marine - Putting An End To Condensation.

If you are still unsure about it, I have enough left over to send you a small sample, if you want. I told Rex if this worked, I'd do free PR for them forever.

I'm going to try putting a wool blanket under the mattress next trip since I already have one. If that doesn't work, then I'll take your advice on the Hypervent. Thanks!!

I've been using a outdoor blanket(seems to work so far) As for the hyper vent are you guys permanently mounting it some how or removing each trip?

OK - I splurged and bought some hypervent to put under the mattress. This past weekend temps dropped down into the 40's at the campground. the only moisture I found was on the flap of material that covers the hinge. Will want to test in colder weather before making a final verdict.

I may be the hyper vent I seem to remember its spendy but mold is a real buzz kill. Can you post a link to the good stuff? TIA

Try Defender.com, they usually have the best price. Also do a Google search for Hypervent and check out the prices, not to many sellers.

We just returned from a week in Montana, temps were down to 22 F a couple of nights, low 30s the others. The hypervent did great - we only had condensation over the hinge, also. Not worried about that, because it never touches the mattress. Rained 4 of the 6 days/nights, and even snowed one! (Happy, happy SNOW dance!)

I folded down a second bed in our X23F, and used it for storage (on top of the mattress). Not even a hint of condensation under that mattress. No body heat, no condensation.

I love camping!!!

I bought a self inflating pad. Not only stopped the condensation, but is more comfortable sleeping on it over the mattress

Which pad did you get Suzie? I definitely need something to make the bunk I sleep in more comfortable as well...

It's called MEC reactor 6.5. It is store brand from MEC. I'm not sure if you can get it where you are located. They do have online shopping as well. It is double size

Probably not, MEC (Mountain Equipment CoOp) is a Canadian chain (actually a membership purchasing cooperative). I have seem similar Therm-a-Rest type at places like Gander Mountain, Cabela's, and Dick's Sporting Goods in the US though.
