If its 45 degrees outside, how cold is it inside?

I am taking out my 2013 19h for the first time in a couple of weeks. I am wondering how cold will we be if its 45 degrees outside. I will have the heater running and I already purchased the pop up gizmos for the outside. This is my first experience with a hybrid. Traded my Jayco 197 a few weeks ago. Thanks!! Great site!!

Greetings, clossan1. We have the same TT, and we took it out this fall over Thanksgiving weekend. In Michigan, it's usually pretty cold that time of year. We camped for 4 days and 3 nights, and the temperature never--not even for an hour--was over 28 degrees. We had the thermostat cranked up to about 80 and we had a 1500 watt electric space heater. The TT itself was almost too hot; the bunk ends were much cooler, but with our electric blankets, it was nice. We don't have the pop-up gizmos (yet) and we don't have heated mattress pads. I guess the word "cold" is a relative thing; I walked around the camper in a T-shirt and was comfortable, but my wife and daughters wore sweatshirts. We had an excellent long weekend, and it was NEVER uncomfortable. Hope this helps, and enjoy your new TT. Happy Camping!!

You can have the camper any temp that you want. Plan to use a fan or the AC on FAN setting to circulate the heat into the bunkends. I camp all year long in PA. Until 3 years ago in a PU, now a HTT. I was always able to keep the trailer warm, even when the outside temp was below 0F.

As a former 17Z owner, I recommend ventilation. We always cracked the window by the kitchen sink and left the vent in the ceiling of the bathroom open and if needed running. This helps prevent the tent ends from sweating and keeps a good regular temp in the main cabin. Also, when it was just me, the husband and 1 toddler, if it was really cold and rainy outside, we "turtled". Left the camper closed up and used the couch and table for our beds. A little snug but it worked when in WV it was 28 degrees and raining for 5 days on an Oct. mountain trip. Sounds like a sad trip but we had a great time! We did not have our Gizmos on that trip (purchased the following spring) but I know they would have really helped if we did. As I aways say, not matter what the weather when camping it is always better than being at the office! Have fun!

If you have electrical hook ups, do yourself a favor and pick up an electric space heater. We set our camper thermostat to low in case the electric heater can't keep up. That way, we know it is cold when the furnace kicks on!

We camped as low as 17 degrees one march in our popup. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. We should have guessed it was that cold when the fire outside was about 6 feet tall with everyone was only about 3 feet away from it and nobody wanted to leave to use the bathroom.

The temperature inside is based on what you like it to be. At 45 deg outside we never felt too cold. In cool weather we use a 1500 watt electric heater, which was enough heat for us. I sleep on the outside edge and felt a little cool (I hate being cold) on 20-30 deg nights. I found putting a fleece blanket on top of the mattress before putting on the sheets really helped. For the last few trips we used electric mattress pads.

Condensation can be an issue. Our cure, is to crack open the bathroom vent about a ½”, and crack open two bunk windows, one each bunk, we would put the zippers in the upper corner and then unzip one window in each bunk about 2-3 inches.

We do not have the popup gizmo and have heard they really do help.

The main section of the TT will be fine, it's the bunk ends where you will notice a major drop off in temperature. You might want to try sleeping between two comforters.

Interesting thread. We just bought a 17Z and never gave it any thought as to the bunk ends sweating (Condensation). Great idea keeping a window cracked and the bathroom vent open. Thanks...

Totally agree here. We camped in 20F temps last fall with a 40 MPH wind straight off the lake. I bought a cheap ceramic heater at Walmart for $18 and it really made a difference. Helped to save on propane too.

These trailer do pretty good... We camp alot back off the power grid and the propane furnace literally runs us out of the off-road POPUP. We actually use the propane heater as a backup for when it gets REAL COLD outside and use a MR BUDDY heater normally while we are up then get under the covers at night.

At electric sites we always use a couple of oil filled room heaters for primary heat plugged into the site 20AMP service. Here again the propane heater is only used for backup... The propane heater might kick on a ocuple of times during the night with the low setting I have on it...

I like the oil filled types with no visible flames or burnt dust smell when being used. The ones that has flames or red-hot cores scares me alittle bit in our small floor space.

My next mod is to get my hydronic water going that uses the 6-gallon hot water heater for heat source. In my small floorspace off-road POPUPP this will work like gangbusters for us just using the one heat register.. Once I get that all going I will pull out the propane gas heater. Need that space to install my hydronic heat exchanger.

That's where pop up gizmo's come into play. They will prevent condensation issues and you won't have to worry about keeping any windows and/or vents open.

Should you worry about the tent material cracking in the cold weather when you open or close the tent ends? I remember my Pop up had a warning on the tent materials that said don't open or close the pop up if it went below 40 degrees.

I just reread the owner’s manual. There is no mention of not using the canvas below a particular temperature.
