"Insulating" the foot and head of the beds

Just wondering what others do, if anything, to "insulate" the foot and head of the beds in the bunk-ends (i.e. to fill in the gap between the mattress and the canvas wall)? In our old pop-up, I never had to use anything because the mattress filled the entire space. With the X23b, the mattress leaves a gap of a few inches at both the head and foot of the beds. I've used small blankets and towels to fill the gap, both as an insulator and a bug shield (the front bunk has gaps big enough for things to wander in to), but was just fishing for other ideas. Thanks!

I find that one odd because our beds fit fairly tight. But you might be better off than me because my beds get wet on the edges if it's too cold and damp outside. They might be making them a bit smaller in order to stop wet edges.
I have a 2010 EXP21M hybrid

My mattress fits snug also. No gaps.
Are they the original matresses that came with the camper?

Mine's actually older--a 2004 X23b. The mattresses are slightly smaller than the bunk end door so they would fit between the poles at the end of the bunk.
