is this normal? Bands Loose - supports for black and grey water tank?

Ok, So I am on hour 4 waiting around for the service to arrive for a scheduled appt to address my tail light issues (another post in this forum). I got bored so I started crawling around under the camper to see what I could see.

I notice that there are some stainless, or maybe aluminum straps under my grey and under my black water tanks, 2 straps each. My assumption is that they are there to support the tanks. What I don't understand is that they are not snug against the tanks. I can get my fingers under the straps at all points so there are not currently providing any support to the tanks.

Do these tanks swell as they fill, which then tightens up the straps?

Remember I am very new to all of this so forgive me if this is a stupid question.

Actually, you aren't the first member to report this problem. Not sure this was your year/model but if so, maybe Jayco should be alerted and offer a recall so it can be addressed and fixed!

mhg When I was installing my rear bumper toolbox I noticed the same thing, I just let it pass as "safty straps" in case the real supports break,I hope I'm right.

I think the idea is that they will snug up as the tank becomes loaded. The worst part is that the straps are only secured with self tapping screws. I was thinking about replacing my screws with some stainless steel bolts, but maybe hold off until the warranty expires.

Have you ever crawled under and looked at the tanks when they are totally full? Amazing how much they expand.

Service guy finally showed up, I'll post light fix on the proper post, but regarding the straps. He told me that those are just a backup and they provide no support during normal operation. I'm gonna get back under there though next time my tanks are full and check for expansion.

See my post in this thread: http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthread.php?t=1884. I'm pretty sure they are just an assembly aid. The tank flanges are captured with the support rails and if somehow the tank dropped from it's mounting a sheet metal screw or two is not going to hold up the tank.
