Member Tow Vehicles for X19H and X20E

Hi,
I am new to the forum and I am in the process of shopping for one of the Jayco hybrid trailers and would like to receive some feedback on what members use as there primary tow vehicle. I currently have an 2007 Hummer H3 and I am looking at the X19H or the X20E, does anyone here have a H3 that they use to tow either model? Or similar vehicle? I have reviewed the H3's ratings but would like to actually hear feedback and not rely on a statistic. Thanks for any help.

We just traded in our X20E, which we loved. We towed it with a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with no problems. We did put a cooling package on the truck. Our towing capacity was 5250 lb. There was nothing about the X20E that we did not like, especially the slide-out.

We have an X20e and have towed it with both a Honda Ridgeline and a Toyota Sequoia with the 5.7L. I've had zero problems towing with either vehicle and am really really pleased we went with the X20e as our camper.
I was really nervous about how the Honda would handle the trailer, but it ended up working very well.

I have a coloardo with the 3.7 auto, thats the same as the H3 right? I pull a 19H with it, and if no hills or head wind its fine, but hills and wind kill me. My rating is 5000 or 5500lbs.

Thank you for the feedback. We are leaning towards the X20E specifically because of the slide out which would give us a little more floor space for the kiddo. My H3 is the 3.7 and is rated for 4500lb. I know X20E would be maxing out the H3's capabilities but we are light campers and would be getting a WDH/sway control to making towing a little better. Also plan on installing a trany cooler as well. We are in PNW so there is really no way to stay away from hills, however, I do not plan on any really long strenuous road trips until I upgrade to a Tacoma.

We have an x20e. Love the room that the slide offers. Also in case we wanted to be "turtled" at a truck stop or walmart parking lot, plenty of room to sleep on the couch and dinette. Had a Toyota Tacoma which was a undersized TV. Upsized to Tundra and now a F150 and it tows like a dream.

In the towing section there is a post regarding how to visit the CAT scales. I would highly encourage this to confirm that your H3 can handle the tongue weight.

This is a good point that many folks overlook, because they didn't realize that the loaded tongue weight gets subtracted from the TV's "available" payload capacity.

If I were the OP I would take the H3 Hummer to a CAT scale and weigh it (w/full fuel and passengers). Subtract the CAT scale weight from the H3's GVWR (noted on driver's door), the remaining weight will be the available payload capacity for a trailer's loaded tongue weight (not dry weight), the WDH weight (50lbs), and any other weight not accounted for at the CAT scale.

For estimating purposes, figure the recommended loaded tongue weight for a X20E would be 10% to 15% of the estimated (or actual) loaded trailer weight.

Example of a X20E w/GVWR of 4,750lbs: (Published UVW 3,660lb) + ((150lb Ship Weight (estimate)) + (400lbs cargo) = 4,200lbs @ 10% to 15% = 420lb to 630lb loaded tongue weight. Thus the H3 Hummer would require at least 420lbs available payload capacity for just the loaded tongue weight.

Also, please note that published UVW's aren't reflective of a trailer's actual ship weight..., the actual ship weight (UVW) is noted on the yellow sticker on the side of the trailer. Depending on the model/size of a trailer, the ship weight can add another 100lbs to 600lbs on top of the published UVW.

Hey there Elk Dawg ; we tow our 19H with a V8 Eddie Bauer Explorer. We love this combo for the ability to get into those tighter spots. I towed previous with a full size crew cab Sierra , although I think it towed better than the Explorer does, mainly due to the longer wheel base - I think I prefer the Explorer for its size. I can tell you, up here in Canada some parks have some pretty challenging sites to get into, usually these sites tend to be the nicest.

I tow my 19H with a 12 Tundra Crewmax. Plenty of room for everyone, and extra cargo. I love this combination, better than the Silverado I had.

I towed our x20e with a 13 Tundra Crewmax, it towed very well.....too bad I didn't like the truck for a daily driver. Now I have a F150 Ecoboot Super Crew that I love. Have not towed the camper yet due to being out of season, however the weight of the x20e is not even half the pulling capacity of the F150, so assuming it will do well.

I tow our '12 19H with an '07 Ford Expedition EL w/ Heavy Duty Tow Package and an Equalizer WDH Hitch. We've gone about 3,000 Miles with this setup and it has done well, I could not image towing with anything smaller though I know many do it. I would also recommend a Scan Gauge 2, I have it setup to output Coolant Temp and Transmission Temp and Slip to know when the convertor is locked up.

We tow our X20E with a 2010 GMC Acadia. We haven't had any problems at all. I do have the factory installed towing package, which gives me a capacity of 5200 lbs.

Love our x20e - wifey especially loves the bathroom...LOL. We tow with and 05 Durango 5.7L Hemi. It's a breeze mostly I believe because the x20e has a little bit lower profile height-wise than a regular TT. 7200 capacity.

Is your F-150 8 cylinder? The 2015 F-150 will offer a 6 cylinder. I wonder if this will tow my 19h?

Hey Clossan1. I have 6 cylinder 3.5 ecoboost. Have not towed with it yet, but it has a capacity of 11,000, so I'm assuming it will pull my x20e with ease.

We have a 2011 X19H and tow it with our 2005 Jeep Liberty and no problems at all. We have a weight dis hitch on it and have had many a trips on the freeway with simis passing and only feel a little sway once in a while

We towed our trailer home from the dealership with an '01 tahoe, couldn't tell the trailer was there until we started hitting the hills, felt sluggish.

Then I used a '03 Dodge 1500 w/hemi, huge difference from the tahoe and a LOT more power.

Now I've picked up and chev avalanche but until the snow disappears, she will not meet the trailer.

Sweet!! Thanks. Looking forward to trading in my 2006 Nissan Titan for a 2015 F-150 V6 with ecoboost. Im sure i'll get better mileage than I do now!!
