Mount shelf on bathroom wall

New here and didn't find an answer searching old threads. The bathroom walls in my X23F all flex with pressure so it's easy to find the beam in the wall. But I want to put a small shelf on the mirror wall which is the exterior wall. There is no flex and feels solid. Anyone know what's behind the fiber board ? Maybe Styrofoam for insulation ..... just concerned it won't support a shelf with a cup and some toothbrushes. Thanks.

I can't help with your shelf question, but there folks here that 'mod' their trailers and one of them may have an idea.

Have you considered the 'Command' adhesive options? I believe they offer toothbrush holders, cup holders, etc.

Welcome to the forum! The command hooks do work great in our RV, but I am not sure if they make one to support a shelf. If they do, I would go that route. My concern with drilling in the wall would be if there were wires or something else of concern hidden in the wall. I've read on the forum here where members have been able to get a schematic or blue print direct from Jayco by providing their VIN. Hopefully that helps.

I was working on placing a TV mount a couple months ago and found a nice solid area that the stud finder said good. Decided to go in another direction. Fast forward - located a panel below looking for something else and upon removal, the item found was a large pipe and no stud. Maybe just a vent but...

I've been planning on doing a mod to the dinette in our 23B. Emailed Jayco customer service with our VIN # and told them which wall schematics I wanted and they emailed them pretty quick.

I removed the mirror on my trailer and replaced it with an inexpensive oak medicine cabinet from Home Depot. The mirror was held on with double sided tape and was a bit of a pain to remove (a putty knife helped). I replaced the latch on the new cabinet with a couple of roller type latches so the door would stay closed and mounted it to the wall with four drywall screws. The fiber board is strong enough to hold this as it's been there for several years. This works great for tooth brushes, pills, etc.

It's been my experience that the board used in trailers is a bit better at holding screws than say, home drywall. Drywall is basically plaster which turns to powder when you start working with it - and doesn't hold a screw well at all. I wouldn't try to hang a 200# shelf on it, but a toothbrush holder should be fine - just use short Stainless Steel screws (so they don't rust over time).

But I've also THESE 3M strips to hang stuff like a basket to hold remote controls. They aren't velcro, they are two plastic strips that "click" together somehow and make a much more substantial 15lb hold than the velcro strips.

@Buddyray. I just finished a project for a client I had to do some local shopping for hardware in their neck of the woods (city). I picked up these and used them for the first time. For drywall and plaster they hold really well. I'm always skeptical of trying new things but these worked well. I was impressed.
Note: not recommending them for TT wall paneling....just drywall and plaster applications.
