Newbie to both forum and camping

Hi All....I am a Newbie to both this forum and camping...so be gentle please.

We just bought a nice condition 2006 23B...loved the layout and so far have been on two outings...all seems pretty good. a few questions though.

This weekend we seemed to develop a sulpher smell in the hot water...only when using the electric heat. I did some research and seems there may be microbes that emit this smell when the water is hot...so I will attempt a chlorine flush of the system. any idea what mixture chlorine to water?.. I figure to put 12 gallons of the mixture in the FW tank then pump it through and let it sit for a day, then flush loads of fresh clean water.

second Q....I see the pop-outs are vinyl covered canvas, and they are in great shape and do not leak...however, I have an inkling I should weatherproof them somehow...I am in the marine industry and familiar with what we use there on sunbrella products...but this is not sunbrella...its vinyl covered...any help here...I have searched the forum and am awfully confused as to the proper procedure.

looking forward to the camping lifestyle and the help..

Thanks all

Welcome PYG to the friendliest RV forum on the 'net! I found this article about sanitizing water systems and it gives the chlorine to water ratio.

The RV Forum

Enjoy your new to you X23B. We really like ours. As far as canvas care goes, you can use Pop-Up Gizmos, or PUGs as they are called. A lot of folks seem to like 'em.

Welcome and congrats on the first rig!!!

I have noticed that before, but the next trip is fine. It seems sometimes it may be the water itself if you had a fresh water hook up.

Have fun!!!

Thanks

Thank to all the well-wishers...this looks like its gonna be a fun ride!

Anyone have any advise on front mounts for bikes...I don't like the idea of mounting them on the back, and I have a trailblazer so putting them in the bed is not possible. I have heard of some mounts you can get that bolt onto the frame and put them above the propane tanks...but have yet to locate manufacturers.

Just in case, you should have a look at your heating element in the water heater. When they start to corrode and go bad they start to give off a sulphur smell in the water. Just a thought for something to look into.

Hello and welcome to the forums. Lots of friendly advice here. It could be that your location was on a well. We have family in Eastern Washington and Idaho who are on well water and every time we visit and take showers it always smells like rotten eggs. It's harmless and is only present when the water is hot.

You may want to check and see if you have an anode rod in your hot water tank. If so it is part of the drain plug and if partially eroded you may want to replace it.

Welcome and Enjoy your new to you TT.

No anode as I have an Atwood heater...and I did check with the campsite...the water was city water and did not smell in the camps showers so I am sure it was an issue with my unit.

I sanitized everything, yet to try it out but will in the next few days

Does that fold down or remove easily to allow the front bed on the TT to fold down?

Hi, on our hybrid with the Jack It bike rack, we do have to take off the top part of the rack, (if you look at a pic of the rack with bikes on it, it is the part which the bikes actually rest on) which is quite simple to remove with one quick release clip in order to get the bed down, but the main mounting post of the rack stays attached to the A frame of the trailer. There is about two inches of clearance from the bike rack main mounting post to the underside of the bed when it is down. I'll see if I can find a pic online for you. We already put the trailer to bed from this weekend. Here is an online image.

Hi, no we are still able to use our original jack. My hubby did have to remove the original jack to place the bike mount on, but then screwed everything right back together. It was a little finicky to do by himself, a second set of hands would have been helpful to screw and hold things together, but entirely doable on his own.

One helpful piece of advice is to set the cradle hooks and the mount pins for the tires with the Y frame on the ground first. Trying to adjust the cradle mounts with the bikes while the frame is in the air is awkward.
