No black tank flush...

More questions! Thanks everyone for helping a newbie out! Soon I'll be able to contribute more once I master all these basics!!

So we successfully completed our first trip!! We even popped our dump tank cherry lol. Which has me wondering...

I'd like to be able to clean out the black tank as much as possible. There was no line so it would have been perfect but I didn't know the best way...

We dumped the black, closed that valve, then dumped the gray. Checked the sensors and black still showed as full. I wanted to fill up the black again with water and dump it again.... But there's no black tank flush valve in my 2007 23b. The hose wouldn't reach the bathroom if I tried to snake it in. I wanted to hook up the supplied hose to the city water connection... Then use the shower head to fill the black tank again. But thought I shouldn't connect the dump station hose to the hybrid...

Thoughts??

People who don't have a black tank flush use something like this.

Valterra F02-4100 45 Degree Hydroflush With Removable Anti-siphon Valve https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002UHVAA..._VKr0vbQCJZTP2

In those cases if you have the time I use one or two of my own hoses to go to the toilet and just fill from there. If you have extra fresh water in your tank, you can also run the pump and hold the commode open (kids are helpful for this) to do a fill and flush. Having the sensors show full after dumping is not unusual at all. Over time you will learn how much time you can go with the black tank before it is full. The other thing you can do if it is practical is to dump like you described and then put some water in the black tank and drive for awhile and then dump again close to home. I built a dump station at home and so could keep the black tank very clean doing this.

DW often uses the shower head for cleaning the commode. I carry separate hoses for fresh water and for black flushing and never shall the two meet.

don't know if this will work for you but I have a cleanout near my driveway, when I get home I grab a garden hose and fill the tank through the commode, let it set a few hours and drain it into the cleanout, most of the time the fill gauge starts working after the first flush. I also do the same for the gray.

The sensors are great until the first time you use the toilet. Then the sensors get... stuff... on them and read incorrectly. I wouldn't get too worried about it though. Some people like to polish the inside of their black tanks after every trip. I just try to get the majority of the solids out.

If you can, drag a hose inside the camper and flush water down the toilet to help move any... stuff... along. I wouldn't worry about doing it every single trip, but if you get full hookups most of the time, I would do it then. I think the best solution is to put about 5 gallons of water down the toilet after you drain and let the water slosh around while you drive home. If you want to drop some chemicals down there too, they might help break up pieces of toilet paper.

At the end of the day, its a holding tank for your waste. I don't understand peoples fascination with making it sparkle. Get the solids out, leave enough water in so that any leftover... stuff... doesn't dry to the bottom and don't worry about it. If your toilet seals correctly, you shouldn't have any smells. Your black tank gases should vent above your ceiling.

I extended one of my sewer clean outs over to my driveway so I could take care of this stuff at home. I made a wand about three feet long out of 1/2" PVC with a 90 degree ell at the end. It hooks to the hose with a swivel so I can put it down the potty and shoot water in all directions; it works great!

I know a guy who lived in the country and emptied his black tank into a gopher hole. Not sure how the gopher felt about it...

I use a 5 gallon bucket to poor water down the toilet if I'm at a dump station.

You can add a tank wash, it's an easy DIY. I did this and use it when I'm at a site with hook ups.

I love the idea of that hydroflush! I think I'm going to have to pick one up. My plan is probably to do some ice, laundry detergent, and calgon right before we depart on our next trip. Then before setting up, swing by the dump station first to dump/flush/fill/repeat until it's pretty clean. If that doesn't resolve the sensors... I don't know what will!

I know I can just look down the toilet when flushing to see how full it is.... But 1) it's like an optical illusion, i could see down there but had no sense of how full it was... And 2) the longer I looked, the more water kept filling in from the flushing. Suggestions??

If you have no black tank flush, the 5 gallon bucket works well.
However, I wouldn't use poor water, just everyday water will work, but you do have to pour it down the toilet!

Turn off city water or your water pump and then look down the toilet with a flashlight. Easy to see the level then. Very hard to see when water is flushing by.

We went for a season and a half with non functioning sensors. I finally cleaned them off with one of these.....

It worked well. I agree with the poster above though that the tank doesn't need to sparkle everytime. I will probably give it a good rinse once or twice a season and leave it at that. If my sensors aren't accurate it doesn't bother me.

Cheers

The sensors never work. TP hangs up on the and completes the circuit. We just look down the toilet to see how full it is. Before dumping I will fill the tank as full as possible with FW. So it flushes nicely.

After dumping add about 3-5 gallons of water back into the tank. Ideally with some liquid fabric softener and either toilet chemicals or Pinsol

https://www.youtube.com/user/TheFitRV has some interesting videos on tank flushers. unless you have a straight pipe to your black tank the hydroflush type aren't that useful. He does the tests on a clear tank he sets up, was educational.

My black tank sensor is the only one of the three that works and is accurate.

Definitely glad I watched that video. I think I'd get the flush king just so I have the option of refilling from the dump by closing the valve.
