Norcold Fridge issue, got any ideas?

My Fridge in the 19h is doing something odd today, of course right before I want to leave to go on a trip. Norcold model with the separate freezer. Gas or electric.

I put switch to gas, the gas valve turns on, the ignition spark turns on, the gas flows, the flame comes up, but then the ignition spark keeps clicking while the flame is burning, and then the gas valve shuts off, and the no gas light blinks. The propane tanks are open. One is full the other probably half full. The flame when it burns is burning good. Any ideas as to way this would happen?

Thanks

It sounds like the flame sensing thermocouple may have failed or has moved and no longer is in the flame. It could also be the control module has gone bad.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. It's only 3 years old. Geez. Is there a way to tell if it is the thermo-couple gone bad? I will hope that is the issue. When I get home I will have to try to see where it is in relationship to the flame.

Does it have the flashing lights to indicate an error code?

Which model# fridge?

The manuals are online and I could tell you where to look and get a voltage or resistance reading to show if the thermocouple is functioning.

Model 611 with the separate freezer and fridge

The lights flash when the gas valve shuts off after the ignitor runs for a while and stops.

I can't find the service manual. Are you sure of the model number? Norcold usually has a letter prefix.

If you are familiar with your RV, take the outside access cover off and see if you can find a pair of wires going to the chimney above the burner. Are they both connected?

Open the burner view port and have someone inside the RV switch the fridge to gas and verify that the burner does, in fact, ignite.

If it does and then shuts down after 30 seconds with flashing lights on panel, then the problem is definitely related to the flame safety.

If I was standing there, I'd be looking for the thermocouple and taking readings with my DVM in flame on and flame off conditions. That would say direct me to the board or thermocouple or the wiring.

Model N611.

The burner ignites, the flame looks great but the unit keeps trying to ignite even though the gas is already ignited.
There is no thermo couple like a furnace has but there is the spark sensor. A red wire that goes over by the burner. That must be it I guess. I hope that is the issue and not the $150 board. Now to find one before I leave tomorrow - Not sure that is possible but I guess I have to try.

When I get back home I will look at it and see if it just moved - doubt that but I'll look.

Thanks for the advise and wish me luck on finding a part in 24 hours.

The flame sensor is most likely dirty. A bit of cleaning will probably restore it to full operation.

I took the cover off the burner. The is the spark ignitor and the burner. Both look good and work. The is no other device next to the burner which might sense heat. There is however a thermistor like device about three inches up from the burner rivited to the metal shield. It has two wires that go back to the controller. When the chimney is warm that device is at about .6 ohms. I was able to get the gas to light and stay lit after running the electric unit for a while. I think that device mist be the heat sensor. It must not be getting warm fast enough when i start the unit with gas for the first time. Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

I'll try to find that Thermistor Looking device that is riveted to the chimney on the wiring diagram. I have yet to find it on line.
