Pop up Gizmos

I was considering buying some pop up gizmos for my x17z and wanted some thoughts from others if this is a good investment. What are the advantages of using these and if so which ones are the best?

I got them for a popup and then hybrid we used to own. It's amazing how much of a difference they can make both during the summer to keep the heat out, and winter to keep the heat in.

You can make your own for less using some space blankets if you have more skill and time than money.

Attaching them to a hybrid can be interesting, because you need to find a way to keep the top secured in place. On our hybrid, the tent material was attached to the inside wall, so the area inside the opening was a good place to put the velcro. I requested the velcro pre-sewn into the top of the ones I ordered. The shock cord was just stretched under the bed/door. Here's a link to a post of what I did: Attaching Popup Gizmos to a HTT

I believe it might be better to face the shiny side toward the heat (e.g, reflect it back toward the sun during the summer, and dark side up to absorb heat during the winter), but Bob at PUG swears it doesn't matter. He says, "shiny side up always."

when we owned a hybird, I made ours out of reflectex, and attached to tent ends with clips, also made cutouts to fit in the windows between the screen and fabric worked well for many years and made a huge difference

I bought the super high wind PUGs. We use them if it's really hot, really cold, or under messy trees (sap, leaves, seeds, etc). They work fine but I've found them to be a pain to get on, mainly because you need to stand on something to get them clipped on the top rail. I have no room for a ladder and usually end up standing on a cooler.

To keep all the rope ends from getting tangled in storage, Bob from PUGs recommends winding up each rope and twisty tie it. I do this and it does work, but again it takes time to rollup and twisty tie 20 rope ends.

We used them on the HTT and will echo what others have said. They really shine when you are in the full sun on a hot day. The insulation is a plus in the cold weather as well. I bought the "high wind" versions and they were a challenge to put on but worth the trouble.

We just use the 9X12 TARPS over our OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer both tent bed ends... They look OK using stretch rope to hold them in place...

I don't know how long the high dollar GIZMOs hold up but the 10 dollar tarps last a good two years... You can change you color scheme too hehe... Silver works best for reflecting heat away however...

Having the tarps over the side window flaps is great too as you can leave them opened on the inside and fresh air finds it way through the traps using the fantastic fan to pull in fresh air at night...

Hello, go wild. Not sure if this might work for you or not as I have an X19H but ...... I bought a 3 step folding flat ladder and I lay it on the floor between the dinette and the couch during travel (wrapped in a sheet to keep floors clean and the luggage I pile on top of it) and when I get to my campsite I just put it outside under the back bunk.

Yes, they work. Just used ours for the first time in the Texas heat 95-100. My wife complained last time we went camping out (w/o them) because the AC was not reaching her in the bed at night. With the Gizmos in place, the entire camper was much cooler, day and night! No complaints this time from the wife. Worth the money. They are a bit tricky to attach like others said because of the hybrid tent attachment to the trailer.

This will stop the tangled storage problem. I take the top 2 and tie them together lightly in a slip knot and the same with the bottom 3. This also makes it easy to toss the Gizmo over the tent end.

Yes they work great! We are in Florida have used them extensively. The do make a big difference in inside temperature. I do recommend the high wind ones. I did not get them and needed them recently in the Keys with the high wind. By the way, we have a X23f and the side cover is a different size from the end covers. I marked mine so I now know where each goes.

Thanks for all the positive responses. I guess if I can deal with attaching them they are worth buying.

We bought a set of high-wind ones, and they're amazing in both hot and cool weather. Practically removes any radiant heat feeling from the bunks, also makes them darker in the daytime (perfect for naps).

We've used on a few cool nights (less than 50 degrees) and it reduced the amount of condensation in the bunk areas by a good 75%, and kept them decently warmer. Definitely took the sting out of the cold air.

We love them.

Highly recommend the Gizmos! Not only do they help with the temps inside but they also help keep your canvas clean. We just keep a small Rubbermaid step stool inside and it works perfectly
