Propane tanks on Jayco Hybrids

Does anyone know how to remove the propane tanks from Jayco Hybrids? I was thinking about having both propane tanks topped off before I venture out into the cold next weekend, and unless I'm missing something obvious (which is very possible), I can't see an easy way of removing them from the TT. There is a hardware store close to home that says they can fill them without removing them from their mounted locations on the TT, but I'm skeptical about that. Of course the owner's manual isn't very helpful.

My 17z is a pain to get off. There's a bolt on the outside of the tank at the bottom that is easy enough to get a wrench on, but then there's a nut on the inside part that is a real pain to get to.

There should be 2 bolts that go through the edge of the tank platform and the bottom sides of the tank. You have to unscrew both bolts and it is a PITA to get them reconnected.

Do you have dual tanks? If so, it should be fairly easy to remove.

Pull/yank the plastic cover off (sometimes it hangs up on the battery box, just give it a good pull).
Between the tanks is a very large wing nut. By hand back that nut off about 1-1/2 inches
Then slip the retainer bar/clip that holds both tanks down off to one side.
Un thread the hose connection (ensure the propane is turned off)
Lift tank off the base.

I do not have any “Safety” bolts that secure the bottom of the tank to the base. The only time I ever see this done is on single tank setups.

The base of my 30# tank is a ring with holes in it. The tank is bolted on to the platform using 2 bolt-nut sets. I replaced the hex nuts with butterfly nuts and I ensure that the butterfly nuts are on the inside of the platform (front bolt head forward, rear bolt head aft) so that the wings of the butterfly nut come up against the underside of the tank platform and no wrench is required on the inside. Using one small box wrench I can undo the bolts and remove the tank. Not hard.

Do you use "Lock Tite" or a simular product in the bolt?

No Loctite or anything at all.

My x17z came stock with one 30 lb tank, and yes, the bolts on the bottom are hard to deal with. (I used to lower the spare tire for easier access.) I was close to doing what Wayne did because it seems it would be an effctive solution.

I ended up mounting two 20’s instead. The kit is cheap and easy to install. Keep in mind if you do this, you will add about 20 lbs of tongue weight, but you will only gain 2.4 gallons of propane. To me it was worth it because I like to remove one tank once we are on site for use with a grill and/or stove. The top mounted fastener makes that much easier. If you alteady have two 20 lb tanks, the extra weight is not a consideration.

The real benefit is no more "talking" to the two mounting bolts.

I would make the dual tank upgrade just for the fastener and its convenience alone.

We also have a place where we can just pull in [u- haul] and they fill the tank without removing it from the tt. Saves me the hassle of removing it and hauling it back and forth. Safety is not a concern to me, lots of trucks and buses that run on propane fill them up everyday with no problem.....happy camping!
