Ready to buy an X17Z. Help?

My wife and I are going to the dealer on Saturday to look at a 2013 Jayco X17Z. We've looked at it briefly once before, and if it checks out, I think we're going to buy it. I'm a complete newbie with campers and RVs, so everything I know if from friends or the interwebs. I know our tow vehicle is just fine, but is there anything else we should look at on the trailer before we pull the trigger? I know I should check for soft spots on the floor and bubbling on the ceiling, and I should check the tires and under the bunks for mold. Does the X17Z have any particular problems I should look for?

Also .. do you think $9995 is a good price for a 2013 that appears to be in very good condition? From my research, it SEEMS to be.

We paid $13000 in 2010 brand new. Now keep in mind that is $Cdn, so it would have been lees for$US. Having said that, hybrids keep their value. We sold it last year for $10000

I did the transfer to US dollars, and that works out to $9,866. Sounds like my deal is pretty good. Thanks!

Confirm with the dealer that they will do a full test of all components, don't buy "as is, where is". Dealer should ensure all electrical works, battery good or new, propane recertified and drop tested, water system pressure tested. You should arrange a PDI where the dealer demonstrates to you that all of these things are operational.


Check tire wear and age. You should still have 2 years left on tires by serviceable time, but are they wearing evenly? X17Z has very low CCC, so if former owner abused it, it will probably show on the tires.


Take a very close look at the shell looking for any sign of delamination - these are waves in the smooth skin. That is usually a sign of water infiltration. Take a look at the roof if you can as well; any signs of tears or repairs? Has the Dicor been kept up (fresh looking or old and peeling sealant).


Take a close look at the bunk ends for any holes or tears. Easy to do in bright sunlight, or sine a bright flashlight and look for pins of light on the inside.


Note that buying used is great, because you can generally turn around and sell for about what you paid if it turns out to not be the unit for you. Buying the wrong unit new can be a financial disaster.
