Removing Tree Sap from Canvas
Has any hybrid or pop-up owners had to remove pine sap from the canvas on their trailer. I opened up my ends today and saw some sap drops on the canvas that I must have missed when I put it away for winter. I have searched the net and there are plenty of suggestions like Isopropyl Alcohol, hand sanitizer, WD-40 and even mayonnaise. I would really like to know if anyone has tried any of these or had success with other products without damaging the canvas.

I have used peanut butter; a small amount on the sap itself causes it to dry up the sap; then it can be carefully popped off of the canvas. It works on other sticky stuff too, like bubble gum on seats or carpet.

Peanut butter, haven't heard that one yet but i might be willing to try it first since it shouldn't hurt the canvas at all. Thx

I've never heard of it either but you really want to be sure to get rid of any residual Peanut Butter Smells which could attract unwanted bugs/rodents.

Never really thought about the bears, and we do go to bear country in Northern Ontario. Ok, peanut butter might be out.
Rick Danger, did you use Turpentine on the canvas with no damage to it. That was one of my first thoughts to remove it but was worried it would damage the canvas. The sap is pretty hard since it sat through winter.

Might try GooGone. If you try anything with petroleum distillates, wash with soap after.

I havent used turps on canvas persay, I just know its a solvent for tree sap. Test it on an inconspicuous spot. A small amount in some corner. Its not a very caustic solvent like laquer thinner or anything, I cant see it harming the canvas

Mineral Spirits will do the trick. Think it's the same thing as turpentine mentioned in an earlier post

Mineral spirits is a solvent for petroleum based products. Turpentine is made from pine trees and is the solvent to use for tree sap.

Thanks for the heads up Rick. Obviously that's something I didn't know so I'll have to change my answer to turpentine.

I have used hand sanitizer to get pine tree sap off my truck. I have pine trees all around my garage & driveway. Works great. Be sure it is the type with alcohol. Don't get aggressive with it (no need to scrape or chip at it) just rub it in until it dissolves the sap. After it is gone I always wash off the area with mild soap and water.

You're not going to use a large chunk of peanut butter, nor get it on the canvas, but rather place it on the sap itself.
Then again, if you are doing this while you are camping in the woods with bears around, then sure, I can understand its aroma attracting bears.
Then again, cooking or BBQ'ing would be a no no as well I'd think.

I just wanted to follow up with how this worked out for me. This past weekend I finally got my X18D out of storage and home. I decided to try and see which of the suggestions would work out best.
Isopropyl Alcohol easily does the job the best. I just used it with a cotton pad and it virtually melted the sap away.
I also used hand sanitizer. It works really good as well but not as quickly as IPA.
I did try a bit of peanut butter as well. I had to scrub it quite a bit and of course it required more clean up after. But with patience and a little more work, it did remove the sap.
I gave mayonnaise a try too, much the same as peanut butter but it too did remove the sap.
I did not try the turpentine, first of all I didn't have any, and secondly I became a little worried it would affect the canvas.
Anyways, the IPA is easily the way to go. It removed big glops of sap with little to no effort at all.

GO to the .99 cent store, get some '"Awesome" cleaner and some of those Magic Erasers, which are amazing and do not damage surfaces.
