Replace Bunk Key--new here!
Hi everyone! I am new to this forum as we just upgraded (for us) from a 2001 Kodiak to a 2007 Jayco 19H EXP. This is a huge step up for us and we are so excited to get started on our adventures next year.
I apologize if this is a redundant question as I did do two searches first to try and find my answer with no luck. Our bunks have the older style latch (at least I think they are older and no longer used) with the hex style T shaped key to unlock and lock. The sellers only had one to give us and I can just see us now out and about and no key to lock or unlock. No fun! So we want to get at least two more. Anyone know where I can find them? I am guessing I might have to contact Jayco, but I wanted to find out from you all first.
Thank you again and I can't wait to begin reading all of your informative posts!
Amanda

For 2007, was it the older screw down type latches? There is a good thread here for replacing those with the newer (but now also unused) cargo door latches that have proper locks. The newest HTT's have a plastic latch that no one seems to like. Pictures of both latch types and how to replace here:

Oh, and WELCOME!!!
Lots of great people and great advice here!

Okay, that one is new to me. Wondering if it started out as one of these?
Looks like the "key" is a hand made piece of iron. You could probably just use a correct sized socket in there if you lose the key. I'd try that first.

Apparently not because I posted this question on the hybrid facebook group page and several Jaycos have these....granted they are older, but they do exist.

not the type key I was thinking.
I would do a quick measure of the parts. then check out a plumbing shop for a commercial hosebib key.

Thank you everyone....I appreciate your suggestions. Someone else suggested a hose bib key and I should be able to get it at Lowe's. I will keep everyone posted! Thanks again!

When we were shopping for a camper, we looked at one that had a latch like that. The salesman couldn't find the key either! He ended up using a pair of pliers, but it seemed like a real pain in the rear to do. Not sure why they ever built them like that. Hope you can find the right tool!

This style must have been a fairly limited time. As per the post I linked, '07 was the screw downs, my '11 19H is the standard cargo latch, and pretty sure a '10 I looked at was the same.

Ours is an 07 ....so maybe it was an early 07 or only on certain models in 07. Either way, I think I will try Lowe's and if nothing there, then Jayco itself. Keep your fingers crossed!

I see that Lowes has 8-point standard (sae) sockets in 1/4" drive. An 8 point socket fits a square bolt. They list sizes of 1/4", 3/8", and 5/16". One of those may fit.
EDIT: You also might try a socket called 'Gator grip'. It has a series of pins that retract to grip the nut/bolt. It says they fit square nut/bolts.

I doubt a gator grip will work. was given a few, and they need a lot of clearance around it, as they are really big.

Our 2008 23B also uses the same key. If you find a place to buy one please post it. We only have one key so I feel your concern

I think your best bet is to call Jayco with your VIN number. Maybe they will have records of what company supplied them with those keys? If you're lucky maybe they might even have some in the "back room".....

I'm in the same boat having a 2008 23B and only one T-handle key. I called Jayco with my vin number. They looked it up and said it is no longer available. If anyone finds a solution, please post it.

I have a solution!
I did the same thing....called my local Jayco dealer and gave them my VIN. Apparently, the company that made the locks and the keys went out of business. Thankfully, I had already found a solution and I have pasted the Amazon address below. It's a hose bib key and despite being a 38 year old woman who knows a lot about horses, English Lit, and teenagers, I know nothing about construction and home improvement stores! When I went to my local home improvement store and asked for a hose bib key, they looked at me like I was nuts. NO ONE had ever heard of one! So, I did my research and my gut told me it would work. Voila. It does. So we ordered three of them.
Hope this helps for anyone else with this problem!

In case the link ever stops working, ours is called the Cobra Products PST154 4/Four way Sillcock Key. I don't remember which of these four fits (4-way key fits 1/4", 9/32", 5/16" and 1/32" stems), but one of them does and works great. I did try socket wrenches, another tool thingy from Lowes (some type of heat vent key thingy from the plumbing section), and Hex Key sockets....but the key above is great.
Hope this helps others!
