Roof leak along front seam

This past week when we arrived at the camp ground we found that the bedding we had store in the cubby over front bunk end was damp and mildewed. Now that I am home I was inspecting the roof and it appears that the thick caulk sealant that seals the roof from the front wall has some cracking. Is it possible that water is coming thru those cracks? If so what do you recommend to patch this? Do I have to remove the old caulk or can I put some over it? Would I be better off to use the repair tape I have seen at the local rv store? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to JOF

Yes, sounds like the front seam needs a little attention. You can add new caulk over the existing as long as the existing caulk isn't pulling up from the surface.

Another option, IMO the best option, is to purchase a roll of 4" wide Eternabond sealing tape....., used throughout the RV industry.

Here is how I applied Eternabond to my front TT seam: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/sh...project&page=3

Very feasible. Tonight I just caulked our htt. I found lots of little cracks in the caulking and butal tape along the various seams. The front and back walls had a lot cracks. I used Quad, it is very sticky, if you use it wear disposable gloves. Don't forget to check the front marker lights.

Thanks for the info. I ordered a roll of eterna bond and tube of self leveling caulk for the repair. Will probably complete it one night this week after work.

I just had the roof replaced on my X23B and upon inspecting the work had a very lengthy conversation with the technician about when to caulk, how to caulk, etc. He told me when the caulk starts to dry and crack it definitely needs to be replaced. The caulk he just put on my new roof I was told should be able to be caulked over about 2X before I need to strip it and re-apply.

He also spoke highly of eterna bond to fix tears in the roof. I have some but hope I never need it!

Post up some pics of the repair if possible, I'd like to see what's going on with your problem and your solution.

Good luck!
