Sequoia vs yukon?
Wife and I are thinking of upgrading the TV from a 4runner to either a Toyota sequioa or gmc yukon. Anyone have these vehicles? Please share your experiences and opinions? Also any other recommendations for a full size suv would be great to. Thanks

Hey, I just spent months researching this and bought myself an 2008 Escalade ESV. I drove a bunch of vehicles in this class.
Before I provide my advice, What will you be towing and have you thought about going with a longer SUV?

Just looking for a 7 seater with cargo space. We're a family of 4 but some tines take friends or family with us. We'll be towing x17z and throwing some bikes on the roof racks.

Same situation here with similar camper. I come from imports and favor them, but went with a longer SUV than the two you are looking at. One gas mileage of the Toyota and Nissan isn't that great, neither is my Escalade. Two, if I'm going full size might as well go long wheelbase for better towing and hauling people or crap more comfortably.
I recommend looking at that Yukon XL Denali, since you like the Yukon. What year and budget do you have in mind so I can also help you with more relevant?

We have a older Tahoe and a 17C HTT. A friend just bought a fairly new Escalade. My problem with the new SUV's is if you don't order chances are your not going to find one with a towing rear end ratio. Ours has I believe 3:43 I wouldn't want to go any lower, even with a exp 17. 3:73 would be ideal for up to 25ft. and 4:10 beyond that length. His Escalade has the 6.0 motor and 3:23 gears and he said it is not a good combo pulling a 28ft Outback not sure but I think he said it was just under 5K in weight. Next TV for us will be a Suburban or the Yukon XL larger and definitely more solid on the road no matter what I tow.

You could also look at the king of SUVs, the Ford Excursion. Downside is the newest one is 11 yrs old but they are bigger, and can tow more. If you go that route, stay away from 5.4 gas engine. Too weak to pull anything. The v10 and diesel can pull a house if you need to

We had a 2004 Ford Expedition with 3.73 gears 5.4 V8. I think it was the best as far as tow ratings compared to one's you mentioned.
Upgraded to the V10 6.8L 4.30 gears Excursion for our 6 person + 2 dogs family to tow our 27 ft tt. For an X17 an Expedition should be just fine but you will have much more interior spaciousness with the Excursion. Even though newest ones are 11 years old many for sale are still around 100k miles or lower and can drive them well over 200K miles.

I think I'd pick the Sequoia over the Tahoe, and I have several GM products...present truck included.
That being said, I'd skip over both of them and go for a longer wheel base vehicle. You'll appreciate the extra space and the longer wheel base is much better for towing. I won't get into the Ford or Chevy argument.

I vote for the Sequoia. I'm partial though! Our's tows the Jay Flight just fine with two of us and a big dog. For the trailer you have in mind, I think the Sequoia's (first or second generation) would be a good match. The reliability of a Toyota is hard to beat as well. But it is true that the mpg sucks when not towing. We get 12-16 solo and 9-11 towing.

Towed our 26BH for half a season with a Tahoe and it did ok, but I prefer my Silverado... You won't even know that little X17Z is back there!

So you are right, the Escalade ESV and Yukon XL Denali both have 3.42 rears from 07-14 and the 2015+ for both have 3.23 gears. However, the 15+ also have 40 more ft/lb of tq and an 8 speed transmission (vs the 6 speed). So I think it slightly makes up for the more highway rear gear.
The Suburban doesn't get the 6.2 nor the 8 speed. So to me, it's the least capable of the three GM's (but not by much IMO).
You really can't go wrong with any of these full size SUVs of any brand. They are so competitive and spec'd so similar that it comes down to preferences of exterior/interior look, mpg, comfort and reliability.
I re-emphasize my earlier recommendation to look at a long version SUV for the extra room and longer wheelbase. Glad I went that way for sure.
The full size SUV I'm most looking forward to is thr 2018 Expedition that will be on the aluminum body and all the interior upgrades of the new F150. With the EcoBoost, and maybe the 10 speed from the new Raptor. It should be a crazy SUV, with a huge sticker price to boot!

I like your Expedition! I was looking at an EL, the 3rd row, self leveling rear, and ride quality were better than the GM's I drove. My main gripe is the interior but that's just my preference.
I ended up with my Escalade, but in a few years I might get the 2018 Expedition...

We towed our 17z with our Dodge Durango. Factory tow package with the v8 Hemi. Never noticed the tow behind us and it came with the 3rd row seating for lots of people room. Now we tow our Starcraft launch 24rls and it's still comfortable to drive. And it fits in our garage without any problems. I've been driving dodge for 30 years and loved all of them.

The 2500 Suburban gets a 6.0 and massive payload.

The Sequoia is a sound choice for a TV. My 2008 has 110k miles and still looks/works great. When well maintained Toyotas can go forever. A 9600lb limit with tow package pulls our x18d with ease through the mountains getting 10mpg while providing a comfortable/quiet ride and lots of room.

I just bought a 2008 Sequoia Platinum Ltd (5.7L) for the purpose of towing out new X23F. I traded in my Prius for a Sequoia and I am thrilled with it
We live in Washington state. Just this past weekend we towed it over the Cascades and it didn't skip a beat.

We tow our camper with a GVWR of 6000 lbs. with a 2007 Chrysler Aspen that has a tow rating of 7400 lbs. It has a 5.7L Hemi V8. It can hold the driver plus 6 passengers.
