I have a few big trips planned, and no time scheduled in between to go to dealer for repair work. While it is a royal pain to crank, I still get by with it. But I am afraid I will get to a campsite and even manual won't work (i have read a few such posts here).
Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas what would cause it?

I had a similar problem, then it got worse and wouldn't go up or down.
Rena, depending on your DIY ability, I think it would be easier for you to take the jack off the tongue and bring it to the dealer rather than trying to replace the switch. You will find 3 bolts and the power wire you can trace back to the battery. The return / ground is through the bolts to the frame. There is a 25Amp fuse on the wire going into the battery box.
Put some substantial blocks or jack stands under the tongue and be careful not to place it where the emergency brake switch is located underneath.
When I pulled my jack and inverted it, about a pint of rusty water poured out of the assembly. The dealer replaced the jack and I reinstalled it on the TT. No problems since. I also now keep a 5 gallon plastic bucket over the jack while the TT is in storage between outings.
I hope that helps you some. Enjoy the camping. Swampy
