Interesting. On www.fueleconomy.gov, the 6cyl. Diesel Tourareg is rated for 20 city, 29 hwy without a trailer. According to the link, the average person gets 27.5mpg.

I have found the wind the trailer is pushing behind your truck is the reason for low gas mileage. I see from most of the posts here the smaller TT trailers are giving an average of 9-12 MPG pulling the similar small size TT trailer....

My OFF-ROAD Starcraft 14RT POPUP trailer gives me around 19MPG or so being pulled behind my 2010 F150 truck. The POPUP is almost completely hidden behind my truck and is the reason for the good gas mileage. This is almost the same gas mileage I get without pulling the trailer.

My POPUP trailer weighs in around 4200 lbs loaded down with all my camping junk but when cranked down in travel mode position offers very little wind resistance when being pulled behind my truck. For some strange reason I get my better gas mileage using the SHELL OIL gas products...

I agree with Roy. I get about 15 mpg pulling my PUP with my Trailblazer on the Interstate doing 65 mph. The fueleconomy.gov website says I should get 14 city and 19 highway without the trailer so I'm doing pretty good. I figure I'm getting good milage because I have practically no extra air resistance, even though my trailer weighs the same as the X17Z.

We pull our X17Z with a Chevy Astro Van, and get between 12 and 15 mpg. Without trailer it gets about 24.

Yes, I agree -- wind resistance is your enemy. We had a Fleetwood pop-up and got about 13-16mpg with it. As soon as we started towing the "parachute" 17Z behind us, the mileage dropped to 9-12mpg. We normally get 20-22 without a trailer.

I tow my Swift 184BH with a Jeep Wrangler 4dr. I normally get 18-20 on the highway with it. When I towed all the way around Lake Michigan I averaged 11.5-12 but I had a bit of a lead foot because of how long the trip was.

Last summer I towed from KC to Branson and I kept my foot out of it, averaged 58 MPH and 14.3 MPG (calculated not read off of the gauges).
