You need to add about 100lbs to your hitch ( tongue weight of (365) for your propane tanks and battery.

You should be Ok with that. Your hitch weight will be much higher when you add the propane tanks and battery and also consider that the x23b has front storage so anything heavy in the storage area is going to add to the hitch weight. I would make sure you have a good weight dist. hitch and also consider sway control. Plus a brake controller.

Vedder,

Welcome to JOF

Just a couple things to consider:

* The published UVW of 3,905lbs doesn't represent the X23B's final UVW ship weight, there will be a yellow sticker on the side of the trailer with it's actual Shipped UVW (may add around 200lbs). If your RV dealer has a X23B on their lot, check the UVW noted on the sticker, it will also identify the adjusted CCC.

* The X23B in most cases will weigh close to it's GVWR of 4,950lbs, once loaded ready-to-camp (BIL had one).

* The loaded tongue weight in most cases will be in the 500lb to 650lb range....., my BIL's was 650lbs. Recommended is 10% to 15% of gross weight.

* The loaded tongue weight and the WDH weights combined get subtracted from your Tahoe's Payload Capacity, the vehicle supports these weights.

* Published Vehicle Towing Capacities don't take into consideration one's vehicle options, passenger, and cargo weights...., these are subtracted from the published Towing Capacity.
Reference: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...ting-3866.html

Considering the above points, there is the potential of the X23B approaching a specified weight limit(s) of your Tahoe, but that doesn't mean it's not doable......., it depends on your personal towing expectations and more importantly one's personal loading habits.

The X23B has a nice open floorplan when opened up, BIL and family enjoyed there unit for a number of years.

Bob

Thanks for your opinions!
Our X23B weighed in at about 4400# and had 600# on the tongue.
I'd suggest you visit a CAT Scale, get your axle weights and then you will have a good idea if you will be over/under. IMHO, the critical weight is the rear axle.
The CAT Scale is your friend.

RedHorse1,

Was the 4,400lbs your yellow sticker shipped UVW, or a CAT scale loaded weight?

Thanks,

Bob

Here's my 2 pennies....

I have the X23B and we towed it with a Ford Explorer. The Explorer has a similar tow capacity as your Tahoe I believe. Our Explorer did an "O.K" job of pulling it. I might add we also have the integrated hitch with sway control, a must have.

We don't camp far from home, around an hour or so. Most of our terrain is level with a few hills. The Explorer would struggle some on windy days and going up steeper hills. Would I feel confident going on long trips with it? NO. So with that in mind, we traded it for a Ford Expedition with factory installed heavy duty tow package. Now I don't know the trailer is back there and I have more peace of mind knowing my TV can handle the job.

Enjoy your new X23B, I know we really like ours.....

For future thread reference, I searched JOF and found where some JOF Members posted actual X23B UVW ship weights (yellow sticker):

http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...ers-20436.html (Post #15 (4,950 GVWR - 675 CCC) = 4,275lbs))

RedHorse1,

Thanks for the follow-up.

With your 4,400lb loaded weight that would represent a conservative 212lbs of camping cargo...., based on your 4,188lb shipped yellow sticker UVW. (Ref: Post #4, http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...23b-18502.html)

In my BIL's case I would consider him as having had 'heavy' X23B loading habits, thus his 5,000lb loaded weight including a 650lb tongue weight.

I tend to have heavy loading habits with my TT's as well.

I just rechecked my spreadsheet and the actual weight was 4420#. We tried to load only what we needed. I was shy of the Rear GAWR by 200 or 300# with the bride and myself. When we had another couple and their stuff I figure we were a tad over weight.

My X20E doesn't weigh a whole lot less than that. My Sierra has no trouble towing it what so-ever (my towing capacity is 7500# with a 1600# payload). Assuming you are talking about the 5.3 which should be pretty much the same drive train I have, except you have the 6 speed transmission, which is even better!

Verify all your numbers. Your owners manual has a towing chart in it that lists the option packages along with their respective towing capacities. You'll need to know your gear ratio. The gear ratio and option list is in your glove box in the form of RPO codes. You already found the payload it appears.

Apples to oranges comparison. The Tahoe is a full size truck like your Expy with a lot more HP than your Explorer had. He should have no trouble towing the 23b, especially considering short weekend trips. I think he'd be tight for towing through mountains or long trips though.

I think you will be close - but yes it will tow it.

One day when you tow it with a larger capacity truck, you will immediately know the difference.

We still owned the X23B when we bought our '13 Exploder. One of the options was a tow package. As I recall the hitch max was about 600# which was my tongue weight. We wound up not getting the tow pkg, so never pulled with it. Our Expedition 5.4 V8 did an adequate job, don't think I'd be happy pulling with an Exploder.

This. I towed my 2015 Jayco 16XRB with a Ford Ranger 4x4. While this tow vehicle had the tow capacity to pull this travel trailer, I could "feel" it. When I made the move to a Ford F150, it was a huge difference. Both pulled the Jayco just fine, but the larger F150 makes the experience easier, smoother, and with less effort then the Ranger did.

Maybe you're trying to convince someone to get a larger TV?

We towed our X19H with a 2014 Explorer - it worked OK but was far from great. We moved to a 2014 F-150 now.

Comparing the two, the fuel mileage between the Explorer and the F-150 was only minimally in favour of the Explorer when not towing, but when towing the Explorer was awful and the F-150 couldn't care less that the trailer is behind it.

The Explorer was within the tow capacity requirements but once the added wind load, it really struggled. The final nail in the Explorer coffin was a trip late last year that should have been 2.5 hours, turned into 3.5 hours and two tanks of gas due to a strong headwind. Couldn't get above 80KPH with out downshifting into gas suckinig territory. Under ideal conditions the Explorer was lucky to get 100KPH at all.

The minimal fuel savings of the Explorer for the 350 non towing days a year didn't pay for the extra fuel costs in the 15 towing days within the year.
