Using a Max Air II with the fantastic fan

I see so many people using those Max Air vents I decided to get one for the fantastic fan vent. I got the Max Air II that has the hinged attachment.
I was looking at it last night, and to me is seems like it would limit the air flow when I just want to open the vent, and not turn on the fan since the vents are only in the front and the sides are completely blocked. I do that a lot, leave the vent open and don't run the fan.
I am having second doubts and may not install it, and instead maybe send it back.

What are your thoughts on that?

One advantage is you can leave the vent open in any weather. I leave mine open all the time, even when sitting all winter. Never gets wet.

Yes - I believe it decreases static airflow. However the benifits far outweigh as stated above. When it's raining - but hot in the trailer - no biggie - open it up and run the fan!

Now - I had a fantastic fan and MaxxAir and was told that you shouldn't run the fan at at the highest setting. Too much restriction and it was hard on the motor. This was when I had this setup in my Casita. As that was such a small trailer who needs the highest setting anyway Also, you can contact Fantastic fan and they can send you resistors and instructions to "slow down the fan" even when on the lowest setting (at the time it was free - love those guys). Again - I was in a tiny trailer at the time.
