Water leak repair for x17z

Has anyone needed to repair the inside roof area over the shelf above the bed? The wall covering has peeled away from the wall. My husband accidentally poked a hole in it and whatever material behind it has a crumbly consistency.

I had some moisture damage to my roof/ceiling a few years back, but not on a X17Z.

The degree of repair will depend on the moisture entry location (root cause), and the extent of the moisture damage from there. Some repairs are straight forward, others can be expensive.

I would start with the roof inspecting all seams, caulking, vents, marker lights, rubber roofing material, A/C gasket, etc. Check the side wall/roof joint as well.

Thanks, Rustic Eagle! We were on the roof yesterday, cleaned sealant and applied dicor self-leveling lap sealant to pin holes and fissures. Believe the leak came from the front of the room at the seam. My gut tells me to remove the area that came away from the wall and take out the crumbly material and watch the area to see if there is any moisture (we are expecting 3-6 in. of snow tonight). Am I on the right track?

Got into the camper this weekend and cut out the damp stuff. Ran a portable heater to completely dry everything. We are expecting some rain on Tuesday so will wait and see if things stay dry. If so, I'm on to patching up!

If you have the opportunity, post some roof pics of where you suspect the moisture gained entry...., may help others going forward what to look for.

Removing the moisture damaged material is a must, also allows you to check for mold.

We were very fortunate that our leak was slow. We repaired the small holes in the caulk at the seam (see the brighter white caulk on the roof pic). After the repair we had a little bit of snow and a week or so later had a day of almost 2" of rain. The pic shows the water ponding at the seam....and we stayed dry inside! Replaced the torn out material with some inexpensive vinyl flooring and adhesive caulk. Pretty pleased with the results! Thanks for all your encouragement and advice, Rustic Eagle.

Looks great, and good to know that you found the root cause.

If you want to insure that a roof seam doesn't became an issue in the future, run some Eternabond Sealer Tape across the roof seam (over the existing caulking).
