water pump running!

We found today that our water pump was running while parked in the driveway! Not sure what this could be from as all the taps are closed off and no water in the system.

Anyone come across this before?

I've checked a few posts on here but nothing relates as far as I can see.

Shouldn't your water pump be switched off with the on/off switch?

As mentioned above If you have no water in the system the pump will run as it can not create any pressure to have it shut off. Make sure your switch is off when not using the pump

Did this myself one night. Kids used up the water in the tank..didn't mention anything and I never noticed the dull noise of the water pump running with all the noise and campground fun.

It's been fine so I guess I got lucky.

Embarrassment city: Left the pump on for nearly a week with no water in the tank. Thought is was the converter fan.

A search helped me find this thread because.....

My kid turned the pump on for about an hour not realizing we were on the city water connection - something we don't do often.

I haven't checked it out yet (it's on the list for tomorrow) but I assume the seals would be burned out from running dry and I am in for a new pump.

What was your experience? pump still good?

Left ours on for a couple hours running dry. Still works fine.

From what I have heard and experienced, you can let them run dry, for sometime without danage.
