I understand completely. Our truck had a cap on it when I bought it. And in part for the same reasons, we sold the cap. I bought an Extang Solid Fold tonneau cover which is supposed to be delivered today. That way I have something lockable when not hauling bikes and other things. I could have gone either way on this because there is other stuff we'd like to carry in the bed while traveling.

Another thing to consider is to bolt fork mounts onto a 2x4 and still haul the bikes in the bed. It'll work, I wanted to make sure in case we couldn't sell the cap. I pulled the front wheel off of one of ours to see and it slid right under the cap. Of course if you don't have quick release front wheels its just a little more painful, but not bad. And you'll have to organize the back of your truck to make it work out.

Yes. Its not that much extra weight and your truck should have something like a 1300# tongue limit, which should be plenty.

Our dealer quoted us about $250 for parts, and another $250 to install it. I passed with intentions to have a hitch welded on by a welding shop for a lot less. In my case the dealer installed one on our unit by accident when they were doing the PDI. I was told they were doing two PDI's on the same model trailer at the same time and the welder accidently got the trailers mixed up. Their loss was my gain. The dealer welded reinforcement plates to the frame then the hitch to the plates.
