X23B Mattress Comfort Questions

Can anyone help with ideas to help with mattress comfort?

I have read that some are using an air mattress to help. Is that an air mattress under the standard mattress or is that just using an air mattress and not using standard? If both, is it a thinner self inflating or a thicker air mattress?

We are trying for something thin that we can store as we fold up and not have to remove.

Thanks

We bought a two inch memory foam mattress topper from Walmart. I couldn't believe the difference it makes.

Ok, thanks. Are you in a hybrid and if so, how do you store them...in your bunk ends or elsewhere?

We just lay an open sleeping bag out flat on top the mattresses.

We are in a hybrid. I store the memory topper rolled up on the couch. There is room to store it on the bed flat when bunk end is closed and strapped in.

New mattress

We bought a new mattress from Ikea it's approx 4" thick but still has a fold identical to the one taken out, we then put a memory foam topper over that. The IKEA mattresss was $100 but well worth it, memory foam was laying around the house. While this mattress is much thicker than the original it still fits in the space folded up when the bunk end is closed, well worth the extra size for the comfort.

Just ordered a 2-inch memory (gel) foam from Amazon for $55. Plan to place it on top of the stock foam mattress.
Heading out this weekend and will sleep on it for seven nights. Will report back here to let you know how it worked out.

It worked out well.
At first we thought, the added topper doesn't seem to make a huge difference, by the end of the week we were feeling better about the purchase.
It's a subtle improvement. Don't expect a dramatic improvement.
I should add that this particular one, from Amazon, does seem to be made very well; just more 'squishy' than we expected, but then again, we've never used memory foam before.

The only way is buy a new mattress if you want a good nights sleep.

We pull the mattress from the second bunk and double up. Nice thick 8". Helps prevent the kids from coming along too.
