We aren't in Charlotte, but our son goes to Johnson & Wales University in Uptown Charlotte, so we spend a lot of time there. We are just outside raleigh, about 3 hours East.

Thanks cool, not too much of a drive from Charlotte. Isn't Johnson and Wales a culinary school?

I am familiar with a few good camping spots in NC but none out near the Raleigh area. Do you know of any good campgrounds on that side of the state? My wife and I like to try new campgrounds out,we are burned out on the whole Myrtle Beach thing and want to head towards Hilton Head but that is a long drive for us so we are looking to find other options for us and our family within a 3-4 hour drive.

Hey kreid,
I live in Charlotte (near Concord Mills Mall) and one of the great things about living here is the proximity to CGs at the beach and the mountains. We have stayed in many CGs within a 3-4hr drive. We stay primarily in state and federal CGs and use the following websites:

Recreation.gov
ReserveAmerica
NC State Parks
SC State parks

If you want to message me offline I can give you a list of 15-20 places we have stayed in the South East, most within 4 hrs

Drive a little further to Wilmington when you are on the way to Myrtle Beach, then go down the coast road (US17). There is a nice KOA about 3 miles from the north end of I-140.
