Angry 2013 X23b rear canvas tearing

We have been meticulous in caring for our trailer and just got back from our first of the season camping trip and noticed the rear bed canvas in both upper corners is tearing and of course our Jayco warranty is expired, so not happy!

Has anyone had similar issues and can share if this can be fixed vs. replacement? Cost?

Is it at the rounded edges where it meets or is attached to the trailer frame or should I say upper edge. Is the plastic trim that holds it in place split. If it is at that location then your not alone as many of us have that same problem and I mean many. There's a post devoted to that problem in the Hybrid section.

Yes, it is at the rounded edges and appears to be tearing away from the plastic trim. I will check in the Hybrid section, but do you know if an extended service plan has covered anything like this?

I just saw your pictures and that is exactly what is happening with ours. Are you aware if Jayco has helped owners with is after their two year expires?

I don't believe or know if Jayco helped anyone with this problem. In this pic. I used about 1-1/2" of Mr. Grip with steel teeth then plumbers steel band, a washer & screwed it all together. Oh, and a little duct tape on the sharp edge.

After about 5 months of ups and downs it's still holding.

Dr. Sails Epoxy Adhesive should work for material repair and strengthening patches.

Some information is here.

If you look at the first pic you'll see it's the plastic that's split and not the fabric. I couldn't find any type of Epoxy that would work.

I was responding to the original poster, not your post. Maybe your failure is different?

If I misinterpreted I apologize.

If I didn't misread, then "both upper corners is tearing" could possibly be repaired using the product I suggest.

If matching repair fabric to use for the torn "upper corners" repair is not easily acquired I suggest that Marine Vinyl commonly found in fabric stores could be used as a substitute fabric with the Dr. Sails Epoxy Adhesive.

Marine Vinyl is supple, UV resistant, and available in many colors. Gray is readily available. Grays will blend in with many colors when used for exterior patching. I have on occasion added an extra patch to an otherwise undamaged similar area (opposite side) for symmetry. It can help to make the repair less obvious. I have also been successful in applying repairs and reinforcing patches to the inside of fabrics where color match is less an issue.

Marine Vinyl is used for boat seat cushions. That is tougher service than most tent fabric will ever see.

No need to ever apologize, any product suggested is well worth trying.
I think we have a failure in the plastic reinforcement for attaching our tent ends.
I will visit a marine store tomorrow as per your suggestion.

If you go to a marine store it may be worth looking at sail repair tape. I have used that for many tent and awning repairs with good success. It comes in various colors. If you use sail repair tape I recommend cutting the corners with a radius. Square corners peel up more over time. Stitch the repair tape down well using a spoon or other rounded tool to help adhesion. I use a small cutting board as a bearing surface to press against.

A local sail loft will also have sticky back. That is a fairly heavy self adhesive Dacron cloth which is used for wear patches on sails. It sticks very well and is durable. Typically it is only white color though. Most sail makers will sell small pieces at decent cash price to walk-ins

A marine store may have some vinyl, but a fabric store will likely have a better selection.

This is a local store in our area.

This is the exact problem I just noticed wiping down my vinyl beds..Do you have a U-Tube video on how to fix this? I've found information such as this is awesome and allows me to be brave and fix my own stuff..
Do you recommend replcing the cables, are they getting weak which is what is creating the extra pull. The materials do not appear rotted, just riping..

Hi. I was able to find Mr. Grip on Amazon. However, I am not sure where to find the "plumbers steel band"?

This problem will never go away as long as they use this plastic strip. When I was at the the 2018 Seattle home show I spacifically looked at the Jayco Hybrid tent corners and observed 3 corners that were split fresh on the showroom floor. Is there a solution to this problem "NO ".

It seams to be a common issue.

I removed one of the screws that holds the plastic strip in place, found a small washer that fit the screw. One screw at a time, I added a washer to the screws in each of the corners. While screwing them back in, I made sure to adjust the cracked plastic strip to crimp it back in place.

I have not had any issues since making this repair
