Loose AC screws
THANX to the forum! I was on the roof yesterday to examine the rubber roof- I remembered this thread so I grabbed each AC unit to check for looseness- To my surprise, both units could be moved side to side about one inch- I will be dropping the inside shroud today to tighten the 4 screws- THANX again- DD

Checked A/C bolts today and one was out about 1/4 inch and the other 3 were a little loose. so I pulled the bolts and put a nut on them up against the A/C unit. So I snugged up the bolts and tightened the nuts. It won't stop the settling but it should keep the bolts from loosening, maybe.

I DID find one of the 4 were loose...
But I will say that it CLEARLY explains that you have to do this periodically, in the Jayco owner's manual... And the local dealer told me that they check them at PDI and at every service as well. Good to know...

I just checked my 11 X19 that has only been towed 75 miles home from the dealer a couple of weeks ago. It had one loose bolt, and it too was down about an inch, and looked like it had never been screwed in to start with.

There seems to be a pattern here- On both our ACs, 2 bolts were not making any contact with the metal frame and 2 bolts were making MINIMAL contact-I was able to hand tighten those bolts having contact before I used a wrench to tighten all 8 bolts- Someone at Jayco is NOT doing their job- An email will be sent to Jayco about this widespread and continuing problem- We will be trying to schedule a trip to Indiana for a factory tour- Perhaps we can speak to someone who can look into this continuing problem- DD

You are not supposed to tighten those bolts more than just snug and a little more. All you need to do is compress a rubber gasket. Over tightening may lead to more trouble later.

Wow, I have a 2012 32 BHDS that was just built in March. I noticed that my bolts are loose. They are not horrible but they are loose. I was able to turn the bolt with a flick of a finger.

Bringing this up again. As everyone begins their camping season, don't forget to take your A/C apart to check the bolts. I checked the front today and it was good, the main A/C gets checked tomorrow. Another note for those with ducted A/C's. While in there checking the bolts, check the duct work as well. Check to be sure that there are no gaps between the duct and the cutout in the roof studs for air to escape (no need cooling the roof). If there are gaps (or other cutouts), be sure to seal these up as well. This will help get the best performance out of your A/C.

Im pretty sure this is the cause of my AC leak problem (see thread below for pics). Can you run some sealant or dicore around the exterior of the gasket itself to aid in leak protection?

Man am I glad I saw this thread!
I have had my Jayco X23B for less than a month. Last night, we had a monsoon with torrential rain!
I will be checking the A/C bolts this week-end!

i found online at CW they do sell the replacement seals for most common brands, about $24 US. Going to see if the snugging up will take care of my condensation leak this weekend when we setup otherwise i will order up a kit and post pics of my removal/install in this thread.
