Another Cracked Rim

I was checking running gear and tire condition yesterday as we get ready to move again the 1st of the year and found another cracked rim on the left side of our Pinnacle. No unusual tire wear on any tires, just the rim cracked in the spokes like the last time we had a cracked rim.
We are out of our Jayco Factory Warranty about a month, do not know if Jayco will cover this second failure.
Both failures were found while sitting parked, we have had no failures on the road, which has been a good thing.
With a second failure, I have lost confidence on the model of rims on our Pinnacle, I am looking at alternative rims that have higher specs than our current rims.
Looking at a HWT Aluminum Series 03 Heavy Duty rim.

The way I see it, is you had one failure before your warranty expired. To have a second on the same item suggests a manufacturers issue! I would hope that not only do they cover it, but also look into why they have had 2 rim failures on the same unit!

I would contact the rim's mfr and see what their warranty is on the rim. It may be longer than Jayco's 2 year one.

X2 if there is no signs of kissing curbs on the rim then either jayco or the rim manufacture should step up. A cracked rim can be deadly for many if it came apart at highway speeds with alot of traffic. Hope you get it resolved.

Maybe you should contact NHTSA about this... they should be told and investigate.

I will contact Jayco first this week to see if they will do anything.

Since I have now have had 2 cracked rims and have got away with no damage, I do not want to push my luck.

I am looking at replacing all 4 with stronger / heavy duty rims so I will not have to worry.

Apparently those rims don't like side to side forces like when backing at a sharp angle. The type you are looking at is a lot stronger.

I know I have a different rim than you do Rob, but I did check mine after your first crack showed up. I will do it again later today.

Thanks for the update.

A little duct tape and you`ll be good to go. Seriously, I hope they give you a new set of rims.

The cracks look like they have a little rust stain bleeding out. I thought they were aluminum. If they're steel rims could it be a failure of the chrome plating or maybe it's just a bit of grime. Would be interesting to see the back side.
C'mon Jayco, you guys need to step up on this one!

Update

Jayco has stepped up on this, got a quick response from Randy, even though we are out of Warranty by about a month Randy said they would cover it and either he can ship me a replacement rim to my home address or I can purchase a rim and send him a copy of the bill and he will send me a reimbursement check.

I went ahead and ordered 4 of the HWT High Spec Heavy Duty Rims this morning, waiting on tracking number.
I will feel a lot better with the Stronger / Heavy Duty rims under our Pinnacle since this is the second rim failure.

It is great when a company like Jayco steps up and does the right thing, you can be sure when in the future we get ready to replace our Pinnacle with another 5th Wheel, it will be a Jayco !!!!!

Great piece of news Rob. Sounds like they'll help you buy at least 1 new rim.
Jayco, good job!

That is a great price. Couple of questions if you don't mind.

1. What is the load carrying cap. of the new rims?

2. Are they chrome steel instead of cast Aluminum?

I think they will give you plenty of peace of mind.

The cracked rims are made by Sendel. The same wheels that came on my 2013 Eagle 5er, except mine are 6 lug. Here they are at the Sendel site:
http://www.sendelwheel.com/wheels/t03sm
It would be good to know if there have been many other failures. I just bought a fifth wheel from them for my spare tire ($98).

****Upon further web research, found this discussion on another forum specifically dealing with this type of wheel, and that they have had a problem with cracking on Chinese made knock offs.

I read that post on the airstream forum, very informative.

My rims are made by Tredit and were OE on my current Jayco.
