Another leaky roof issue

We bought our used 2006 Jayco Jayflight about 4 years ago. This past spring it was discovered that our roof, according to our dealer, is unsafe. They have recommended that we replace it immediately at $100/linear sqft; at 29ft, that's a minimum $3k expenditure.

I've read through several threads and there seems to be a quite a few related to this issue. What do people recommend our next steps be? Do we just get the roof fixed? Do we trade in our existing unit for a different one (we've been told by more experienced campers that once you have a leaky roof, you always have a leaky roof)? Contact Jayco? Contact manufacturer?

Any hints or suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks

That's why they recommend that the roof be checked at least every 6 months.

It would be hard to believe the entire roof would need replacing. I would think that perhaps a section may need to be replaced. What happens is the water ultimately rots out the wood cover and supports. You should have the unit checked to determine how much of it needs to be replaced before you make a decision and if possible get a second opinion. Unfortunately, you will have to tear into it to determine the extent of the damage.

Seams and accessories such as antennas and add on junk are usually the culprit. You'll take a beating on a trade and while it is often done you really can't just sell it to some chump without disclosing the problem.

Properly repaired it will not likely leak again. If you do repair it insist on using EternaBond on all seams.

Sorry to hear of the problem and hope you find a reasonable solution.

Why would the roof be 'unsafe' according to the dealer? Is it rotted out and unsafe to walk on it? The new roof will be way more costly than just replacing the rubber roof material if it is rotted out. And a rubber roof should be good for about 20-years. Could the leak be from poor caulking? Have you inspected and recaulked the roof attachments and seams annually, may not need a new roof.
