battery drain

i hook the battery up and it sparks with no lights or anything else turned on.
would the radio clock or tank sensors be drawing power

No. I would suspect your water pump or furnace could be on. Possibly hooking up the battery in reverse polarity. Otherwise it appears you have a short somewhere. In the last two cases should result in blown fuses.

Large spark would indicate something drawing amps.....but a small spark would not be uncommon either - yes the radio, fridge and other electronic 12V power supply systems may draw and store power.

The best thing I have learned over the years when hooking up battery cables is to look on the battery case for the stamped word "NEG" or the symbol "-" and then make sure that the cable that goes to that battery terminal is coming from a FRAME GROUND connection that is real close to the battery terminals.

If you indeed have had them connected in REVERSE POLARITY just for a second or gotten large sparks etc you most likely have blown some fuses. There should be a in-line fuse close to the battery positive terminals (sometimes this may be a circuit breaker) and inside the trailer on the power distribution panel you may find two FUSES labeled "REVERSE POLARITY" that may be blown. Sometimes these REVERSE POLARITY fuse are located on the front panel of the installed CONVERTER/CHARGER unit.

Correct the REVERSE CABLES first before replacing these blown fuses otherwise it will just blown them again.

I have seen small sparks at times but alot of sparking is not normal.

The sensors, refrigerator, furnace, water pump, and possibly the radio could draw from the battery. All of these are 12V and a small spark is common.
