Bedroom Slide Seal Too Short

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. We have owned our Designer 5th wheel for about 8 years now and have had issues with the upper bedroom slide seals since new. They always seemed to have problems staying in place and looked like there was sealer holding the sections together. I finally decided to see what was causing the seal problems and whether I needed to have the seal replaced. Since new I had issues with the dealer not properly repairing the defects in the trailer and took us almost 2 years to finally get most of the minor issues repaired and as such have never trusted our selling dealer to professionally repair any issues with our unit. I know, poor excuse, but the only one I have.

What I noticed was that it looked like the seal around the slide out looks like it is too short and was filled in with butyl sealer and tape between the ends of the seal sections. Has anyone else experienced this? I cannot see the factory making a mistake like this knowingly (I hope), so perhaps there is something I am missing here.

The picture I have included is after the gobs of sealer and tape were removed from the seal area. There is a definite large gap between the ends of the seals.
