Black water tank level indicator

On our 2015 X23B, the black water tank level always shows 2/3 full. I found the ground wire (white) for the level indicator had been torn loose. I reattached it, but no change. Then I took a small electrical jumper with alligator clips and connected directly to the tank terminal and to various ground points on the trailer. Still no change. What else could it be? Thanks.

Ours did the same thing, had "junk" on the inside jamming the indicator I think. I filled the tank about 2/3 or more, put a bag of ice in so the ice could "scrub" a bit, toilet treatment, and a few tide pods, then towed the thing immediately for 2 days about 7 road hours. Emptied the tank at my destination, read empty for the first time this season.

I doubt I needed the 2 days/7 hours, probably an hour would do then let the chemicals work a while, then tow again, maybe add more ice the second time.

Thanks, jsallman1. We have a trip planned for Labor Day weekend, so I'll try your technique. It's only a 1-1/2 hour drive, but maybe that will be enough.

These things are notorious for being faulty. After years of RVing, I've just learned how many days I can go and never rely on the indicator.

Since the 60's those sensors are junk for the grey and black tanks and still are. Are RV manufactures stupid or what?

Mine had the 2/3 full wire connected to the 1st sensor which was the Empty level and the Empty wire connected to the 1/3 sensor. Once I figured that out and moved the wires where they should be, My sensors are pretty good.

There is actually a You Tube video that a guy spent quite a lot of time on to de-bunk the "ice" method of cleaning a tank. It's worth a look, the guy built a clear tank for his experiment. (Maybe he has too much time on his hands).

Putting a nail in this thread:
We used the camper on Labor Day weekend. Our use of the black water tank was minimal, but I filled it nearly full before leaving the campground. After dumping the contents, the indicator now shows Empty. So most likely it was some debris on the sensor. Thanks for all the input.

How did you figure this out?
