Broken Stairs

I have a Jayco 256RKS. The back entry stairs have 2 thin crossbars underneath where the steps fold on top of. The front crossbar is broken where it welds on to the side plate. So, now the stairs can't be used.

I'm afraid if I just re-weld the bar, that it will continue to rust and break again.

Has anyone had this issue and have a better fix??

Thanks
Andy

The stair assembly probably bolts on. You could remove and replace with a new assembly.
Camping world example: 24" Double Step - Stromberg Carlson SMFP-2100 - Steps - Camping World

Unbolt the stairs and have a competent welding shop look at them. They'll tell you how much it will cost to repair it properly. (Grind out all rust and bad welds, replace the now-too-short bar, weld it up and powder coat.)

Get a price on a new set too. You may find replacing will be less expensive and give more peace-of-mind

I would not waste my money trying to repair these cheap steps. If you repair them the cost will be similar to replacement, and if one side broke the other won't be far behind.
