Can't figure how to latch fridge

Is something wrong? Standing in front of the fridge, the little safety catches for ftidge and freezer visible from outside on the handles are in back closer to the fridge while the regular latches are forward toward the 'room'.

The plate they latch into is opposite.

The regular latches fit in the topmost and bottom most holes. For the safety catches to fit, the center holes would need to be closer to the fridge and not outward toward the 'room'.

They aren’t safety catches to keep the door closed they are there to keep the door open. They are fire while the fridge is off to prevent mold and mildew buildup inside by venting the interior.
