connecting electrical cord not long enough

We switched from a Dodge Durango to a Ford Expedition as our tow vehicle. Now, the cord that comes from the camper and plugs into the back of the Expy isn't long enough. Often, when making turns, it pulls just free enough to cause electrical disconnect, and we lose our lights and brake controller. Any suggestions? We've used some kind of greasy stuff from the dealership to help with the connection, but it doesn't seem to help. The little edge on the cord that the door of the hitch cover connects to, to hold the cord in, is still in place, so the slippage is minor, but enough to lose the lights and brake controller. So, significant, anyway.

You can buy "extension" 7 pin cords I had to add one to mine. I used zip ties to make sure the connection did not pull apart.

Can you possibly route the cable a different way to get more length? I know mine was a good bit longer than necessary and I had to change it up a little bit so it fit properly. If you purchased used, could be the previous owner damaged the end and replaced it - thus making the cable shorter. You can also purchase an entirely new cord and run it back to the junction box, which would be the cleanest method. I think they come about 7 feet long.

Have you tracked your wire harness yet? I had the opposite issue, too much wire. Inside my TT I had about a foot of wire coming into the cargo hold. I loosened the wire clamps (2 inside and 1 on the cross frame rail) and gave the wire a little tug and was able to change the wire length at the tong.

You might also be able to re-route the wire harness to get that extra few inches you need.

My tv has a second 7 pin connector mounted inside the bed. That may be another option. Any hitch shop can add it.

X2 on Norty1's suggestion. I bought a "Y" harness for my F-350 that plugs in between the bumper connector and the factory harness, leaving it to function as normal, and the Y leg becomes an extension of several feet that can be mounted inside the bed. You end up with two places to plug the trailer harness in. Took me about an hour to install on my truck. I believe they make the same set-up for Chevys and Dodges.

Since ours is a SUV, I don't think we can move the connector, but will check this weekend to see if there is any slack somewhere back upstream to use for lengthening. Thanks!
