Well I didn't call Jayco but I talked to the dealer and was told that is standard procedure and that is what Jayco instructs techs to do at their training seminars. I just can't get past the fact that removing the screws would be less destructive than cutting the wrap (the corrugated plastic sheeting). I mentioned this to the dealer and he said "I don't have a better explanation".
I went ahead and used zip ties, as mentioned here, and stitched it up and then put tape over the seam. The zip ties worked great. Thanks for the tip.
