Entrance Steps Came Unwelded

We have a 2015 Jay Flight 26RLS. Right now she is resting up for the winter. But yesterday I dropped down the front entrance steps and discovered that the bottom step tread had parted company with the piece of angle iron to which it is connected. It is simply welded at 2 spots on each side of the tread.
I have read here on the Forum that on some rigs, the steps are attached with rivets and that sometimes the rivet will snap. However, ours are simply welded on. Now, there are 4 holes - 2 on either side - that line up with holes on the step housing frame. My plan is to put bolts with lock washers and nuts through these holes as a fix, although I could/should go to the dealer and get it fixed. That's why I have warranty.
Has anyone else had this problem?

You might call the dealer and ask about it, specifically how long will it be tied up at the dealer? Then make a decision from there.

If this were my unit, I would just do the bolts and call it day.

Well I do not have a 26RLS but I just bought a 23RLSW with three steps and I noticed a lot of flexing of the steps while using them.

I just added a camco folding save a step and installed it on the second step and adjusted it so I can put a block under it.

This made a REMARKABLE difference in flex and is very stable now.

It is also easy to fold up the save a step when you fold the stairs it is right on top.

Just thought I would mention it as maybe it would help stop your problem from happening again.

I haven't had the problem, but putting bolts through sounds like a good plan.

I would also contact the dealer. They might know of other defects with the steps that aren't so visible.

I had the same problem. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the entire staircase under warranty.

I agree with the idea of using bolts, but I think using two nuts tightened against each other would be better than using a lock washer and one nut.

A "nyloc nut" would work excellent in this application.

Was this the angle crossbar piece? I have 2 crossbar pieces that are welded at each point where it attaches to the side plates. My front bar weld to the left plate rusted away and now the stairs twist when trying to walk on them.

Was this the same issue as yours?
