Hot water heater soot
We have a brand new Jayco TT and fired up the LP hot water heater yesterday. This afternoon I noticed a large quantity of soot on the grill exhaust and on the side of the TT. I'm wondering if this is a problem or if it is just manufactering materials burning off? Any opinions?

Yes, there is a problem with the burner adjustment or the burner cleanliness. Have a look at my thread from a while ago....

Something is not right. Take it back to the dealer and get it adjusted properly.

Sumptins wrong. Most likely there is a dirt dauber nest or spider nest blocking the proper gas/air mix. Let the dealer correct it as they should have done before you picked it up.

Thanks for the help. As it turned out it only did it the first time, which leads me to believe that there was some trash of some kind, causing the yellow flame/soot condition. The flame is now mostly blue with a hint of yellow at the feather edge.

Good to hear you have the problem solved. From time to time, it's quite common to need to "blow out the cobwebs" from the burner tube. I use one of those small compressed air cylinders meant for blowing out computer stuff. Handy to have one of those around.

I just crank up my compressor and use the attachment that blows air. Simply amazing how much you can get out. Due to my inattentiveness, mine didn't get blown out for many years, but when I did, what a mess. Just a small hint, don't stand in the way of the outlet area when you do this, but don't ask me how I know.

Usually soot on the outside means the burner tube needs adjustment... its new let the dealer do it...
