How to Use Lap Seal

What is the correct method to maintain roof seals?

Do you put the seal over the existing seals, or do you remove all of the sealant and reseal?

Which Dicor sealant do you use to maintain existing seals?

Do you use a different sealant for new seals?

You put the Dicor "self-leveling" directly over the existing sealant. Just make sure you clean it before applying. You can use mineral spirits to clean but don't get it on the roof membrane. Dicor can be used on new seams as well as existing (or maintaining) seals.

X2 on the mineral spirits. It takes the crap off the existing caulk fairly easy and once clean it gets that sticky feeling back. Then apply the Dicor for touchup.

Spend the extra money and buy ETERNABOND Tape. Once and done.

I second that! Used it on my previously owned 5ver and never had any roof leaks for many years. However if you have an off white or darker colored roof it would not look good cosmetically.

Does the eternabond go over the existing seals or do you remove them to apply it?

Right over the top. Just clean it good per ETERNABOND's instructions.

It simply goes over the existing seals. But before applying the tape, Eternabond sells a cleaner to use before applying the tape.

I think that depends. I did not remove the Dicor where the front cap meets the roof on my 5er and the EternaBond covered very well. Mostly, because the Dicor was fairly level and sort of flat.
When I covered the Dicor around the bathroom skylight with EternaBond I really had to "work it" in order to keep the air bubbles to a minimum. The Dicor was really "humped up". I recenty replaced the skylight and took all the Dicor off and then applied just the EternaBond. It made a much more neat job.
One thing you do not want to do is stretch the EternaBond. Following the instructions (which are pretty easy) is very important. EternaBond will not stick to Silicone caulking either, but just about anything else. Good luck with your project.

How long does e-bond last (more or less), and how do you remove to reapply a new layer? Is it hard to remove since it is so effective? Will it last ten years if a roof is kept clean and covered?

The brand name Eternabond means it bonds eternally or as long as your trailer exists! No need to reapply if you apply it correctly the first time.

After feedback on forums for my last trailer and now our Jayco, I used eternabond on both.

I would do it every time. I love the stuff.

I had to replace it once for a skylight that was damaged in a hail storm. It was a BEAR to remove but it can be done using a heat gun (need lots of concentrated heat). If that ever happens again I will probably try to carefully cut it off around the skylight and reapply after installing the new skylight. It will stick to itself.

Eternabond + Dicor Lap Seal

I used EternaBond tape + Dicor lap seal on my skylight install. Works GREAT!
