Installed Coleman digital thermostat.

So today I finally got around to installing my new digital thermostat I bought a few weeks ago. Easy wire for wire install. It is working great. Now I actually know the accurate temp in my rig. I'd guess the original slide thermostat was 6-8 degrees off.
Great mod IMO!

I haven't done any research yet, but I'm guessing you cannot use a digital household thermostat. I looked that one up and I see it says 12 V.

Correct, there are some that have an internal battery that some are using but the wire for wire swap is the easy way for me.

The only thing holding me back from doing this mod is the inability to run the fan only, constantly. By the looks of things you have to have it on either heat or cool mode for the ran to run. I suppose you could put it to "cool" and then dial the temp way up with the fan on "on" mode and that would achieve the same thing as the fan on only?

That would work fine if the thermostat was set way higher than the outside temp.

Putting the fan to On will run it without having it on Cool.

I installed the digital thermostat earlier this season. I need to stuff some insulation in the hole behind it so the heat/cold in the wall doesn't effect it so much....

It's a little bigger than the analog one I replaced. It does hang over just a bit. Less than 1/2 inch. I think it'll be ok. I got it from Makarios RV. Lowest price around.

Ordered one today. I gave the man the RVP # on the back of old unit and he said its shipping tomorrow. In the hole behind thermostat is it good just to stuff a piece on insulation in there just to help it out ? I could not believe how just 2 screws hold this thermostat on the thin wall. I guess I was thinking house structure quality, lol. Its all Good

Not a lot of insulation in the walls. I can feel the heat in the hole where the wires come out.

Any thermostat will work better/accurate if you keep any outside influences away. I stuffed insulation in the hole then put some tape over that as I installed it.

Another thing is the location. One of mine is near the main door so every time someone opens it, it is so precise that it will react.

Also be aware where your cold vents are pointed. A ceiling vent blowing towards the thermostat can cause it to appear inaccurate.

Mine is next to the door and i did this install. How did everyone connect wires. Wire nuts?

Also, should i pull off wall and stuff some insulation of some sort in hole? will it make a diff?
