New Jay Feather delivered with Used/Incorrect Parts

New Jayco Travel Trailer owner here. I just took delivery of a 2015 Jay Feather X23F on 2/21/15. The Mfg Date of the camper is 06/14.

Couple questions I would like to pose and see if there are others who have some expertise to share.

1) This being a Brand New camper purchase with the power package included (awning and tongue jack) after getting the camper home I noticed the tongue jack had been swapped to a weathered and used one. Having taken pictures while shopping for the camper I can see the original jack was a nice black unit. Upon delivery it was a weathered and obviously used white (more like faded yellow) one installed. I spoke on the phone with the parts manager at the dealership and he said "yeah I remember the techs having a problem with one and it must have been yours. Is there a problem with it? Is it not working?" I explained the problem is the jack that they swapped is an eye sore on this brand new camper. The parts manager said he'll get back in touch with me -- but it wasn't in a very reassuring tone.

Do anyone have an opinion on this or how to best handle it?

2) This camper being a 2015 model all Jayco documentation state that the entertainment units come standard with Bluetooth connectivity. Well it is obvious my unit has the 2014 IRV unit installed without Bluetooth. Anyone have an opinion on whether Jayco or the dealer should upgrade the unit to the 2015 specifications?

Thanks for all those that share information. I utilized loads of information from this forum prior to making my Jayco purchase.

Sounds like the dealer did some swaps. If it was built in June 2014 it is probaby a 2014 not 2015. Call JAYCO with the vin # and ask them.

Are you sure it was the same TT that you looked at?

Before purchasing I did inquire about whether it was a 2014 or 2015 model based on the Mfg. Date. The dealer stated that most new year model Jaycos come out around May of the year before. Then we reviewed the "window sticker" (not sure what they are called for a camper) that list all the information about the unit and infact it is a "2015" model. I will reach out to Jayco Customer Service as well and see if they can provide any additional information. Thanks for the response Grumpy!

Absolutely sure! It was the only X23F on the lot -- as well as the photos I took are more than convincing. My assumption is this: Having scheduled the pickup for 1:00pm on 2/21 I'd say the dealer didn't get working on it till that morning. Having found that the power tongue jack wasn't working for whatever reason decided to swap it out with another -- this being a used one.

This being the case I am mostly curious if others in my situation would accept the used tongue jack and go on your merry way or since buying a brand new unit want all new hardware as well? Again the biggest annoyance is the appearance of the old jack.

I would demand a new black one, as if you think it looks weathered now give it another year. Black one is nicer looking. Also, If the specs said you were getting bluetooth, I would also demand that. You didn't buy a unit that came without bluetooth.

JDorant -- appreciate your viewpoint. I am of the same mind but having never bought a new camper just wasn't sure of the expectations with features matching documentation and dealer involvement with swapping parts, etc.

The MSRP sheet would list the "Bluetooth" as well if it was part of the unit.

I've emailed Jayco Customer Service and will see if they offer any recommendations. If/when I hear back I'll update the thread.

I'll also call my dealer and try to speak with someone besides the parts manager and see what happens.

Thanks all for the information and recommendations.

Sounds like they may of had a problem with a power jack on another unit and just took yours and put a used one on, perhaps meaning to replace it when they got the new replacement in. Radio is a factory issue it seems...unless that too was "swapped" out with another unit.. Something is not right. Did you notice this on your walk through before taking delivery.

I actually noticed both items during the walk through.

Having done so much research I was almost positive the Bluetooth was a standard option so I specifically asked about the Bluetooth issue with the RV Tech and he just replied "nah this one doesn't have BT" so I thought maybe I was confused. Got home and reviewed the 2015 Jayco material and it states Bluetooth was a standard 2015 option.

I noticed the tongue jack as well but didn't mention it. It was raining and cold when I did the inspection and thought it looked worse than what I would assume it should but wasn't 100% sure until I remembered when I got it home that I had taken a lot of pics of it on the lot 8 days before we picked it up. Sure enough there was a black one on it in the PICS and now an old white one (well more like dirty yellow).

I would question the integrity of that dealership. You may want to reconsider doing business with them in the future.

Quick Update:

As mentioned in the OP I spoke with the parts manager early this morning and discussed the tongue jack with him -- not coming away with a reassuring feeling. A few moments ago I decided to go ahead and call the salesman I dealt with and get his take. Salesman was very receptive and reassuring. He mentioned he'll transfer me to the parts manager and see about what they need to do. I let him know about the conversation I had earlier this morning so the salesman then said he'll go talk to the sales manager and get back with me.

Well, about 10 minutes later the parts manager called back and apologized. His explanation was that the morning they went to get the trailer ready for prep the RV Techs noticed the tongue jack housing had a crack in it near the up/down switch and in turn wasn't functioning. Parts manager told the techs to swap it out with a "certain other camper that had a like model" but they must have chosen the wrong one. Said they'll order me a new one and be happy to swap it out with it comes in.

I didn't bring up the Bluetooth issue. I'll wait and see if Jayco customer service responds on that issue first since I am thinking it is most likely a factory issue.

I would have come unglued already. You paid a lot of money for a "new" camper and they have the balls to put used equipment on it? And not bother to say anything? I'm just pissed reading this thread!

My take is the parts manager was hoping you wouldn't say anything. Ugh!

I would also start writing things down and push the Bluetooth issue. The 2015's are advertised to come with the Bluetooth.

If made in June 2014, it should be an early 2015 model. It has been established the dealer switched out the jack, I can only guess that at the beginning of the model run they still installed some of the leftover units without the Bluetooth in the 2015`s. Hopefully they will correct this.

I definitely got the vibe the parts manager was hoping I'd either not notice or not call him out on it. Funny thing is the tongue jack they installed on the new camper is so noticeably used and worn that my wife actually addressed it with me before I ever mentioned it to her. She said "we have this beautiful new camper but all I keep seeing is that ugly white thing right on the front of it".

Precisely why I say you should start documenting things. You have already proved the credibility of the parts manager. It's time to start knocking on the GM's door. Be calm....although I said I'd come unglued, don't do that because you'll get the door slammed in your face. Document, document, document. Go over that "sticker" line by line and confirm everything. If it looks used or you don't have what is advertised, document it. Also I would inspect the camper at home closely and document any findings. Then bring it to the GM's attention.

If you cannot get any results, contact Jayco customer service. I cannot stress enough, document dates and times of conversations.

Good luck.

Good luck, hope everything works out for you. I would be at the dealers lot first thing in the morning with trailer in tow....
